Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Hi, we have a male 14 month old dutchXlionhead called sammy who seems to have blood in his urine, any ideas what this might be? should we be rushing him to the vets, he seems his usual self and is eating and drinking as normal , advise would be much appreciated.

If you're certain it's blood then you need to go to the vets.

It might be red from his food too, so I'd make *certain* before making an appointment/emergency call.

Thanks for replying, I'm pretty sure it is blood we haven't changed his food, he seems his normal bouncy self and doesn't seem in any pain. There is nothing in the garden that he could of eaten although we do have a Poinsettia which may of shed a leaf, but we didn't see any around.

Rabbit urine can be very orangey-red in colour. However if you think it is blood then your Bun needs Veterinary attention ASAP

our male bun parsley has orange urine quite often but it's always something he's eaten i cant remeber off the top of my head what it is but there is something that turns his wee orange. Hope your bunny's ok

Are you sure it's not the urine? We had an adoption bun in and I was doing the rounds and as I got closer to her cage I could see this 'blood', and to be honest I panicked. Having checked everything over, it turned out to be her urine and all was well.

I wasn't aware how red the urine could be depending on the contributing factors.

Blood appears as 'spotting' in the urine i.e. a small drop of red in normal coloured urine, not a full red/orange coloured wee. If this is the case your rabbit needs to see a vet asap.

If you are unsure take him anyway.
