  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

allergies

Wispa & Zola

Mama Doe
I think Wispa is allergic to something. she had baytril 2 weeks ago which didnt stop her odd sneezes, her chest is fine, its been checked 3 or 4 times by the vet.

I did a full clean today and she helped and has been sneezing since. I didnt use any chemicals but i shook out the pet fleece which makes me sneeze anyway!

What treatments are there for a bunny who has allergies

ps she hasnt ever had a runny nose or eyes

Dust from hay or sawdust might be irritating, especially if she did it whilst you were cleaning out. If so swtich to bedding like megazorb and have dust extracted hay. However the odd sneeze now and then is nothing to worry about.

its lots of sneezes.

We dont use sawdust, we use newspaper, biocatolet and straw. I assumed we had dust extracted hay but i will double check.

Trial and error, removing objects and bedding types one at a time for a few days to see if it improves.

Pateurella can present without nasal discharge or runny eyes though. Sometimes sneezing is the only symptom.

Its not necessarily either though.

thats what she was treated for on baytril and the sneezing basically before we even started the course. shes had the odd sneeze recently but nothing like today

would pasturella only be sneezing
