Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Weaning off Metacam advice please

Further to my earlier thread (http://forums.rabbitrehome.org.uk/showthread.php?t=112032&highlight=metacam) Inky has been on Metacam for a sprained paw but the time is fast approaching for it to stop.

He has been a lot better on Metacam, he was back to stretching and hopping around within 4 days of starting it. He started off on 10 drops and this was cut down to 5 drops after 5 days, he is meant to finish having Metacam on Friday.

However, I'm a little worried (as always:lol:), he is definitely getting better but his paw is still a little bit sore at times. I don't know whether it is best to just stop the Metacam straight away on Friday or to cut it down to maybe 2/3 drops for the last couple of days, to wean him off a bit more gradually.

I wonder whether it is worth ringing the vet for a chat about it?

Any advice would be welcome!

You could see how Inky copes for the first 24 hours with no Metacam. But if he appears to be in pain again you could ask your Vet about keeping him on a low dose for a bit longer and then reduce the dose over a 10 day period
