Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Myxi jab??

Are there different ways to administer the myxomatosis jab??

I took Charlie and Molly for their due jab and they just had it in the scruff this time so was a bit confused since they have had it part of it in the ear before. When I asked the vet said that she didnt know of any that went in the ear in this country (from australia) so not sure what to think?

10% has to ne administered intradermally. Some vets do this by giving 10% into the base of the ear and the rest into the scruff.

Others give 90% into the scruff then pull out a little to give the remaining 10% intradermally.

If your vet has not done this, in accordance with the manufacturers instructions the vaccine may not be effective.

I would call your vets and voice your concerns, asking for a repeat jab FOC if your rabbits have not had an intradermal dose.

If there is any doubt about the 10% intradermal part being given then *only the 10% intradermal part* can be repeated straight away or as soon as possible after the first vaccination

Im glad you said that, I have been trying to find out if the whole lot needed doing again or just the 10% searching google

Should have just PMd you, would have been quicker

Thanks guys!!

Just seemed odd since it was diff to what i've seen before... she may well have moved teh syringe, although I didnt see it im sure it has to be subtle. But I do know that that procedure that way has to be very accurate!!
I'll talk to them and see what they say.
Needless to say it wasnt my usual vet!

I spoke to the vet on tues and she got back to me last night and the outcome is that we are going to go back for part of the jab in the ear just to make sure. The method they were using was to attempt to get some of the vaccine into the intradermal layer by injecting and pulling out which isnt oo accurate - hence we are going back.
They were very good about it and the buns are having this extra bit FOC.

Thanks for advice all :D

Pleased to hear it. Might be an idea to ask what procedure they are going to use before hand next time, I've been caught out before and had to go back for a repeat.

I had one of mine done in December. It was all done into the scruff of the neck, but she did pull the needle out slowly. Do you mean that they would be injecting higher up the the skin layer and that would be where the 10% is meant to go? The last time they had it done was after they were neutered and I wasn't present to see how it was administered.

Kovu struggled when the vet went to do the 10% in the ear which resulted in a cut ear :( So the vet just put the last little bit just in the skin of the neck instead.
