Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

i havent had him to the vets yet - i only noticed it on his tum this morning! god knows what it is! i really dont no if its just because his fur is long or not  and theres nothing down his spine or anything x

The spine is the most common area but its not exclusive.

Is his fur matted? Sometimes matts pull on the skin and cause it to flake, creating a dandruff like substance.

I think it would be best to get him checked for mites and then maybe address his grooming routine if thats inconclusive.

Is his fur crusty at all, like there is something stuck in it or it has been wet and has dried?

might take him to the vets when i get payed just incase..he isnt off his food and hes pooin and eatin fine its just his mingin fur lol
you know when chewin gum gets caught in somethings fur/hair and it clags 2 it? its like that (only its not chewin gum) and its white flakey stuff. The tuffs its attached to tho are quite long and hangin so iuno

It really sounds like mites to me.

If this is the case all your buns need treating with Ivermectin.

Hiya Vikkie,

Don't worry about Phoebe having mites... they're not caught by being kept in bad conditions or anything, from what I've been told they're contracted through stress.

I've actually had Sapphire to the vets today with similar symptoms - although they couldn't actually find any mites when they did the sticky tape test or any evidence of ring worm when they checked did the flourescent light check - they're still treating her for it. I have to take both her and Jamie in for the next 3 weeks for drops which absorb in to their skin. Jamie is fine but it's best to treat him too just incase.

My vets wanna charge me £40 per rabbit just to be seen so thats £120 before they even get treated! SHould i seperate phoebe from them just incase? *is panicking*
Someone suggested a mite spray from the shop and try that?

Hmm, £40 is alot for a consultation!! I pay £19.51 each for mine. You could treat it yourself but my concern with that would be if it isn't mites you're potentially wasting your money.

Is it always £40 for a consultation?

ALWAYS! £40 to start off with then whatever there treated for on top! so if he gets an ickly tummy it costs me about £54 on average to get him see, injected and his powder for his water

well when chelse had mites on her leg we had injections for it. i think its just really itchy and i believe that in rabbits it is something they always have but a bout of stress or something can trigger an attack where there are more mites and this causes the rabbit to be uncomfy and pull at fur. it is not ur fault. i think a vet trip is prob for the best anyone know any vets closer to this ru member? who maybe charge less?

the specialist rabbit place that miffy's at charges £40 for a consultation too but our regular vet charges £18

I think i'd go to the regular vet and basically mention everything that people on here have suggested.

My vets not a rabbit specialist, but they are incredibly knowledgable. They've saved Kitt a fair few times.
