Christmas Cactus

fiver & tenor

Young Bun
I tried to post this in the edibles section, but it wouldn't let me.. so here it is!

Does anyone know if a christmas cactus houseplant is edible to bunnies or not. Just caught Tenor stealing some, and I cant find much info saying if its ok! I think it is, but wanted to check if anyone knew for sure!

Well it hasnt killed my two yet, and they've managed to steal quite a bit in the past. The plant is now out of reach though. Which is not to say its edible if you get what I mean...

Most houseplants are toxic and it's best if they and cut flowers in vases are kept well out of reach of bunny mouths

This link says it's not toxic as such but can cause 'mechanical irritation' to the gut, causing diarrhea - which would be really problematic in rabbits. (Assuming that what you have is a Schlumbergera)

On a side note, if anyone *does* have a Poinsettia, which is a different lant entirely - it's not only poisonous to bunnies but to humans too. Don't get the sap on you unless you want a horrid skin reaction!

Blimey, I didn't know that about the sap. Thanks for the info.:thumb:
