The rabbit and the sofa

Squishybunny

Warren Scout
OK, I like everyone else on this site adore my rabbits unconditionally but why do they want to test me.

It started as an accident, Twinkle hopped through the patio door one day and started to investigate the lounge. It was quite sweet really she has always hated being handled and I just presumed she therefore hated all people. She was a charming house guest, who loved to hop around and leave before I froze to death.

Question: Will she ever stop delighting in getting stuck under the sofa:roll: or trying to dig up the carpet:evil:???? If she doesn't I fear she will be banned completely.

is she neutered? my buck used to hump our sofa, and dig up our very expensive rug and everythin till we deplummed him, tho he still likes to dig at the rug i just clap my hands and shout NO and he stops

I have a 10 year old neutered male house rabbit who loves digging...so age and neutering doesn't necessarily have any affect

In fact I think he must be a bit senile because he can dig for hours at a time without getting bored

:lol::lol: One of my main reasons for gettin phoebe fixed was to stop him ruinin the carpets nd stuff,he likes to bunch stuff up under his belly too- bizare little boy what he is

If its just getting stuck under the sofa I'd pleased - mine have eaten the sofa, and the curtains and occaisionally try the carpet

Yes she's 2.5 and has been fixed for ages. The carpet digging I get, it's a bunny thing to dig. I just clap my hand and yell NO! and she stops, it's just frustrating. I was wondering if the novelty ever wore off, but obviously not.

She used to be so polite and leave when I escorted her to the door, but now she thinks its a game and a chase ensues. When I get tired of chasing her and sit down on the floor, she just pops her head out from under the coffee table and puts her feet up on my leg as if to say "It's OK your always going to lose, I am a rabbit after all". It's sweet she doesn't fear me, but I'd like her to understand that she's in my hutch and I'm in charge. I'm fighting a pointless battle arn't I ?

Unfortunately I've found that rabbits favourite games are chasing. Faline has dug our sofa, I'm hiding the holes from wally. :? She seems to have stopped now tough.

Put a digging box in her favourite places, I used to put seagrass mats where Charlie liked pulling bits out of the carpet and that worked.

 Scamp loves chasing games. If you stop he comes back to see where you're gone. He's a habbit of turn 180 and running straight into you if you're not careful too.

Sofas are cool because they are burrows - perfect bunny hidey holes ;) If she's chewing under there then finding something ( a chunk of wood?) the right height and putting it 6" in (so you can't see it but she can't disappear) may help. Cardboard boxes are good too particularly if you can get or make long tunnels. A towel/sheet draped over a chair/table is another way to make a hidey hole thats easier to remove a bunny from.

Try feeding her at going home time. Makes them more amenable. If she has a treat ball fill it and shake it and she may go out herself.
