Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Rabbit fur & tats

Phoebesmummy9

I checked Phoebe this morning and the side of one leg - his fur was all grey, matted and tatty - it was like fleece! His fur is VERY VERY thick and longish,
I admit i dont brush him every day but he certainly isnt left and wen i brushed him the other day his fur was fine. Ive had to cut the nasty bits out so now he has a big bobbly grey patch on his leg bless him. Also there was white powdery stuff in with the bits of matted fur
Any ideas??

Could someone have accidentally peed on him?

Edit: With the white powdery stuff, is it anywhere else in his fur...have a look along his spine.

Is the fur falling out easily or in clumps?

well for where it is.. the only thing i can think of, is if holli has been lyin on top of him to keep warm and shes had a wee on him
its like clumps of fur and white stuff and it dosent come out very easily at all.. its like all stuck togeather ergh

I ask beacuse a powdery residue is often a sign of mites, known as 'walking dandruff'.

i didnt see no beasties on him and its just on on his leg. do u think he has mites? how wud he of caught them indoors? :(*feels like a right witch*

Did you check along his spine? Thats the tell tale place for them to be found.

They are not usually easily visible to the naked eye.
