  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

hello
i have a little black rabbit ( i don't know how it's called in english ) and he's 6,5 years old. this morning he had some kind of an attack... at first, he was jumping around in the cage like crazy... then he stopped and started to slobber a lot... i also noticed his heart beat was very fast. now he's better, but still not as active as he used to be... he's been like this for like a week..i'm really worried  can somebody help me please?

It sounds like he might be in pain? Are there any vets that know rabbit medicine near you? Lots of vets don't specialise in rabbits, so it's important to find one that has knowledge - maybe through an internet search or recommendation from a rescue. there is a brain parasite that can cause fits, called encephalozoon cuniculi - a simple course of panacur wormer for 6 weeks will kill the parasite. Is his fur in good condition?

Can you get your Rabbit to a Vet today? It certainly sounds as though he needs to receive professional help

What country are you in ?

i'm from slovenia. i have a vet here in my town... but the problem is he's quite far away from me and my dad's not at home... and he thinks it's not worth taking a rabbit to a vet... do you think it might bo something like epilepsy? my friend's dog had it and it had similar symptomes... oh and his fur's ok

There are numerous reasons why a Rabbit might start to have seizures. Without a proper examination its impossible to say why your Rabbit is having them. But if he has been ill for a week he really needs Veterinary attention.
Could you show your Dad this thread and perhaps he will then understand that *any* sick animal should receive appropriate Veterinary treatment to prevent the animal suffering.

Has your Rabbit been eating and drinking normally?

i think not... i mean he eats... but compared to how much he used to eat it's very little... before he was thrilled when i gave him food but today he just didin't care... i think i'll wait a few more hours and see how he is... but right now he looks sooo miserable just standing still all the time :(
