Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

hya my mum has been given an agouti butterfly french lop doe.she is a lovely girl whos realy friendly.the only thing is she is on the podgy side.how does she get her slim without starving her?also, she seems to have a sore eye in the corner.its abit runny but more of like a little scab as though its a bite or something.any ideas welcome.previous owners said shes always had this.any ideas wat it could be?she is booked in to see the vet thursday for a health check.xxxx

hmmm sounds peculiar. Does she eat hay? If she could increase the hay to pellet ration that would be a good way of slimming her down without starving her. Also plenty of exersize. Not sure about the eye I'm afraid. A runy eye can be a symptom of teeth problems but not necessarily.

Is she on pellets of mix?

Hi Kim
I rescued a french lop who had very sore and runny eyes. She had bad conjuctivitus, she was put on Tiacil drops and now when she has a flare up I use Maxitrol drops.
So, obviously it could be teeth probs or as in Molly's case a tendency to get conjunctivitus.
Good luck!

Best weight loss way that I've found is to just feed loads and loads of hay for a few days plus small amounts of spring greens then very slowly introduce a few SS pellets, increasing up to half a handful.

2 of my rescue buns lost weight this way and it also turns them into excellent hay eaters and subsequently neither of them have any teeth problems.

hi thanks for your replys.she was a rescue bun that was kept in a 2ft hutch with no exercise. didnt know how use her back legs properly.her previous owners had to massage her legs for ages to encourage her to walk.she is still quite lazy but does hop about abit.loves lying on the sofa more though goin sleep!!! she seems to walk on her back legs more than hop.goin get vets give her a full mot anyway.once she is back to 100% full health she will be neutered.mum is goin to reduce her pellets.hutch is full of hay but she just pushes it away.had afew nibbles but nothing great.shes such a sweet grl.so friendly.got the biggest dewlap ive ever seen though.xxx
