Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

becasue we don't have enough already

anyway, it's probably nothing, but Poppy recently totally lost her litter training in her hutch - for three years she only went in the closed off bit at the side, now there's suddenly filth everywhere. i had her in my room tonight and she was perfect, didn't miss the tray once. but I noticed that some of her poos were really small. also she was snuggling on top of my head as i was reading on the floor and her belly sounded quite gurgly.

does anyone have any ideas of causes or links between any of these things? she doesn#t seem ill at all but i find it strange she's suddenly changed her behaviour and would really like her to re-litter train in her hutch cos I can't cope with the extra cleaning!!

thankyou

um not to sure

the only reason I can think of for small poos is not enough hay and or possibly the start of a blockage. You could try giving her some fresh pineapple which may break down any hair in her system.

Mine poo a bit not in their litter tray. I try to minimise this by putting all their hay to eat in the litter tray, sweeping up any excess poo as soon as I see it and cleaning out the rest of their room once a week so it doesn't smell of bunny poo and the litter tray does.

Is their any reason why she might not want to go in her litter tray as much i.e. you changed the bedding or maybe she's too small for it?

nope, it's plenty big enough, has the same (hay) bedding as always and i always put a bit of poo in there after ive changed the bedding to remind her where to go.

it just seems so weird that she's been so clean and tidy for three years, and now it's all gone wrong - nothing has changed! daft bunny. although happily her poos are a better size now.

have you tried giving the hutch a really good scrub and maybe a wipe down with some vinagar to remove any poo smell.
