Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Is Magic Underweight?

Afternoon:wave:

I decided to weight Magic last night just to see how much he does weigh as he looks small. He always been a small bunny, but should i be worried that he only weighs 1.6 kgs he is a dwarf lop or that's what we brought him as 4 years ago.

He is eating, drinking gets his veg and treats each day. He is just recoving from a urine infection but all is ok now he is pooing and weeing as normal.

He is feed on Burgess Excel for Dwarfs and has unlimited hay not sure whether i am doing something wrong or if he is just small.

Thanks
Amanda & Magic

I'm not sure what weight a rabbit normally is, sorry. Does he look skinny?Rabbits are meant to be quite sleek like cats. I wouldn't panic too much if he is behaving normally, eating etc. Maybe you could try weighing him a couple of times over the next week to make sure he isn't losing weight. My boyfriend thinks I don't feed Bluebell enough but my vet said he's perfect size and that alot of people overfeed rabbits.

I am not sure what is the ideal weight but I found this website (http://www.dwarflops.co.uk/) that says a dwarf lopis normally 5lb (about 2.3 kg) and a mini lop about 3lb and 8oz (about 1.6 kg). So, maybe your rabbit is a mini lop. We have a mini lop and his weight is about 1.6 kg.

Unless he's a pedigree, and even then the ideal breed weight is pretty useless as a guide to how much an individual rabbit should weigh.

You need to look at body condition.

You vet may have a record of his weight from past visits you can use to compare :)
