  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

sorrel has been having some trouble with an abcess below her jaw, she's been on antibiotics and had a checkup on saturday at which the vet said she was doing great and was nearly ready to come of her meds.

these last two days her eye has been dribbling loads - but not the one on the same side as the abcess. :? could this ben linked? or what else could it be? do i even need to worry?

gonna phone the vet in a minute too but I just thoguht I'd get some other opinions

thankyou

Unfortunately it is all likely to be linked
Has Sorrel had a skull Xray? I would guess that she has advanced Dental Disease (the jaw abscess being the result of infection in an elongated tooth root)
The Weepy eye is likely to be due to the fact that the elongated tooth roots are pressing on the naso-lacrimal duct and blocking it so the tears cant drain

That's what I suspected but it seemed strange that it would only be the eye on the other side of the abcess and that it would only have become apparent now, as she's had this problem for over a year and is said to be almost over it now. :/ she can go for a checkup anyway though.
