Rabbits on BBC 1

Don't know if this has already been posted but there was a great section on the one show tonight. They went to a family who wasn't getting on with their rabbits and a woman taught the children and the parents how to handle them properly. She used a paint brush (not DIY but arty) to gently stroke the bunnies and the change was amazing. They then built them a huge new cage! I think they could have given more info about getting them from rescues etc but it was great to see good advice being given.

My mum phoned me to tell me it was on but hubby was watching Emmerdale  (saddo) so I couldn't get it on. By the time she rang me there was only 5 minutes left.

It was quite a short bit anyway. THey cage they built looked amazing though!

 well you are all rubbish

I for one have been trying out the paint brush trick...they are both highly unimpressed. Oh well back to the drawing board. Maye I'll try a paste brush instead.

I thought the info given was not bad at all but I didn't hear them mention neutering/spaying which I thought they would have.

Yes definately...or diet really. They could have done a lot more with it but I guess at least there was some good advice given.

The woman concerned is a animal behaviour specialist, so each time she's on they concentrate on behaviour. She's sorted a nippy dog, a nervous, scared horse - that one was brilliant and several others. It was nice to see rabbits on - and that instead on concentrating on the animals, which she's done in the past, concentrating on the human treatment of the animals.

I think this was the first time that she didn't teach the owner just how to relax the animal to make it's life better, but relaxed the owner.

oh cool! I've never seen the show before and wasn't really paying attention untill I saw bunnies

The one show

Yes it was nice to see rabbits featured .......but are we the only ones fuming at the advice being given?

Were they neutered? and was advice given re the effects of neutering on temperament? . I have to admit I may have missed it but what sex were they ?and I certainly did not hear advice on the best sex pairing or warnings given on keeping keeping same sex pairings or the outcome of mixed sex pairings.

More to the point I noticed that the food dish was full so they certainly were not fed small amounts twice a day which is the obvious advice to ensure rabbits associate nice things with humans .

In addittion what on earth are they doing encouraging young children of their age to pick them up in the first place. A rabbits skeleton only accounts for 5% of its body weight and like an egg , breaks if it is dropped.

The new hutch they provided for the rabbits to live in fell way short of the minimum requirements we re-home to and I'm sure that is true of many re-homers who are reading this.

All in all this is yet another cute and fluffy feature on a programme that falls dreadfully wide of the mark. With so much really good advice out there and for that matter on here what were they thinking of?
