Dear danielle,

Message:
hi ther i realise you are after a rabbit. although they are not usually very good pets for children have you considered a local rescue they may be able to help?! good luck

they replied :

sorry but i am a rescue and rabbits are very good pets for kds as long as they are handled rightly and correctly not just left then once or twice a week looked at but rescue have problems and that is why they are in they so im looking for some ones pets what has been looked after for my daughter.

i was not trying to offend and i dont understand this response.

What a load of bull.

There are plenty of well socialised and cared for rabbits given up for adoption due to unforseen and unfortunate circumstances. Its the minority of rabbits that have health or behavioural issues so bad they were given up for them.

I cannot understand anyone who runs a rabbit rescue seeking out other pet rabbits when they likely have some very needy rabbits themselves who would appreciate a good home.

what a wonderful long sentence! I can't work out what it means - how can she be a rescue but then have to get more rabbits for her kids?

I can understand what she means but its still dodgy. She means she runs a rescue but her rescue bunnies apparently havent been handled so she wants someone elses well loved ex-pet rabbits for her children to have!

Took me a couple of reads to decipher

I would email her back and say that there are lots of well loved 'pet' rabbits in rescues too, that are perfectly friendly with no problems, they have only been abandoned because of the ignorance of the owner - not because the rabbit has problems!

Snake Food or Dog Training?

He could be one of those :censored: who has bunnies for training dogs to kill or for snake food. If he runs a rescue he should have an idea about rehab for naughty and nasty buns... a rescue bun is a better pet to be honest - all of ours are recues and are so different to what they were. I do think that rescues appreciate more - they just do not show it always! Sounds like his rescue centre needs checking over?!?!

I think the problem is that not all rescues are like the ones that we see on here...there are plenty of people who call themselves rescues, but don't necessarily have much of a clue about the animals they are 'rescuing'. They may not even have any idea about neutering and vaccinations.

My personal opinion is that they are not a rescue 'centre', but an individual who has taken on aggressive/anti-social rabbits from friends - has not known that she needs to neuter them - and considers herself a rescue because she has taken them in, but doesn not benefit from any interaction with them.

Just my take on it...

I agree

Yes it does sound like the person takes in rescues and calls themself a rescue centre. I just worry about the state these animals could be in if they are not neutered/vaccinated and veterinary treated etc Interaction, daily health checks and affection are needed by any bunny - rescue or pet!

I used to run a rescue centre from my previous home... now I cannot as we have downsized partly due to my health problems (thoracic back injury) and I have only kept the retirement animals. These were the ones with behaviour issues and special requierments - that an everyday person could neglect. I did not want these bunnies handed back to another rescue due to their probs and so I kept them. The same with my piggies.

It is lovely that some people take the time out to dedicate themselves to their pets needs - it really angers me at the fly by night cowboys who collect animals are allowed to do so - let alone class themselves as a rescue centre!

I have seen some rough rescue centres in the last few years - but the bunnies were all healthy and caged properly. They had vets attention when needed and were given free run and cuddles by the owners daily. I feel like posing as a adopter and having a peek round his "rescue". Problem is I would end up with a car full of animals-which I cannot do!

Even though I have downsized - I still spend my weekends and before and after work time solely being the caretaker of my "pets", I jsut wish everyone had the dedication that animals need!

She prob took on a few bunnies that people didnt want or something so now thinks she is a rescue. I could be wrong but i have a picture in my head of her rescue buns and its not good.

i doubt her saying she is a rescue even means anything since her grasp of language is so poot that her sentence is practically unintelligible.

why does she think that getting a rabbit off preloved is any different from getting one from a rescue? either way its probably going to be someone's pet that they cant be faffed with any more.

I noticed the advert on Pre-loved and thought it was very strange as it was a Rescue Centre advertising for rabbits to put in a "childrens corner" or something. Any reputable rescue wouldnt do that.
