  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Gripe Water

Wise Old Thumper
Has anyone used gripe water instead of infacol to help with bloat?

We've had a rather poorly rabbit. Done all the usual, vets, fluids, infacol etc and yet things were looking really bad. I went to stock up on infacol, saw the Woodwards gripe water and bought some of that as well. Started him on it yesterday afternoon and by last night the bloat had decreased slightly and he started passing faeces. He's pooed like a trooper today, rather sloppy pellet shaped, but at least it's passing out.

His belly feels nice and squishy with no hard lumps and he's digging into his hay and tucking in nicely.

I'm not sure whether the gripe water was more effective than the infacol, but it's certainly interesting.

I *think* most brands of Gripe Water contain alcohol so *personally* I would not administer it to a bun

Really pleased that your Bun is better though :D

Hi,

Woodwards is alcohol and sugar free. I don't know if it was more effective, but I prefer the consistency and the rabbit certainly seemed to prefer it :)
