Haylage?

Does anyone know if rabbits can eat haylage?

My friend runs a stables near by and said I could buy some off her but as I haven't heard of it thought I'd check here first.

Cheers

I don't think they should, if I'm thinking of the right product it's partly fermented isn't it, a bit like silage but made from hay? In which case there could well be some dangerous bacteria like clostridia in it which could actually kill your bunny. Personally I wouldn't risk it.

It is fermented yes.
Not suitable for bunnies.

As said its no good for bunnies, sorry. As Faye said Readigrass and just grass are fab, come in huge sacks too :D

Are readigrass and just grass similar things to haylage then?

Suppose I really should look all this up online, just being lazy as I've never heard of any of this before.

http://www.spillers-feeds.com/en-gb...cts-and-stockists/spillers-fibres/readigrass/ Readigrass is excellent for rabbits as is Pure grass https://www.thehayexperts.com/produ...d=213&osCsid=947359a60006526c03dfa198da8884a3 Simply grass used to be sold by the Hay Experts however it seems to be unavailable at the moment.

http://www.thehaylagecompany.co.uk/haylage_info.htm As has been mentioned this is partially fermented and could lead to problems with bloat with some rabbits who have a delicate GI tract.

Okies, thanks for clearing that up for me.

I should of had my hay experts delivery today, have ordered some of the dried grass and a big bag of timothy hay. Will also sometimes treat them to oxbow stuff to mix in. Was just really looking for hay in larger quantities.

I always worry about the quality of bales of hay. My friend also has bales of meadow hay, need to pick up some megazorb from her next week so will check out the quality of the meadow and see if she can get hold of the readigrass instead of the haylage.

We had loads of mates over today and they couldn't understand why I order my hay online and dont buy it from a farm, tried to explain about bunnies being sensitive to dust, need specific types and the fact it's usually poor quality with "added extras" :? They just thought I was being over the top
