  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Just wondering if my vet is expensive or well priced. They charge 30.50 for a consultation, 40.00 pounds for vaccinations (VHD and myxi), and I just paid 210.00 pounds to have my mini lop castrated and dwarf lop spayed. Do others pay about the same?

I paid about £50 for Trips spay, and my girls spays were about £170 for Scarlett and £140 for Buu. Your vet sounds about the same as mine x

My vet in London charges about £25 for consults, £25 for the VHD and Myxi vaccs if paid for at same time and spaying and castration has been bumped upto £110 and £90 which I personally think is shocking. I think it should only be slightly more that a cat spay, especially as it should be promoted and encouraged. The general public are not willing to pay those prices.

That sounds extortionate to me! Where abouts are you tho, cos vets prices vary depending whereabouts you are in the country. I'm in the midlands and pay £30 for a spay and £11.75 each for the vaxs.

It cost me £22 each vaccination and £55 for castration at my current vets, the vet i went to before charged me £65 just to look at my bunny, £135 for an xray, and £25 for an antibiotic injection! They also said it was £30 for vaccinations and £110 for castration, so glad i went elsewhere!

I'm at uni in Egham, Surrey. I thought it might be down to the area. My male needs his vaccinations and I'm wondering whether to have them done when we spend Christmas in Coventry. I had them neutred earlier in the week and was shocked because the guide price I'd been ven was 160.00 if they were both over 2.5 kilos. Well only the female was but they hadn't told me I'd pay for medicines and VAT on top of that!

The vets I use are in Coventry. They're not only cheap but I'd recommend their vets too, they have two rabbit specialist both called Rebecca.

Oh I know that place! We used to take our cat there but I'd completely forgotten about them. I shall give them a call. Thanks! I'm going to research other vets around Egham and Windsor because almost 40.00 pounds for a consultation seems a lot.

that is really expensive, i paid £55 for gizmo's castration this also included teeth burring, nail clipping and 2 check ups 1 week after then 2 weeks after, i pay £16.50 each vaccination and my vet does not charge any consulation fee, i would go elsewhere?!

It'"s the same prices here in Paris, each time I go to the vet it soon reaches up to 100 E with Jaw X-ray, medicines or whatever the problem is with my lop rabbit... Consultation varies from 32 E to 45 E depending on the vet.. and believe me they have crowded cabinets !! it is really really expensive every where I think

Prices vary even within a locality too. I rang round all our local vets last week because I'm fostering a rescue bun that needs a spay. Spay prices varied from £55 to £98 and vaccines from £15 to £25. And that's just within a couple of mile radius!

Vet 1 charges:
£55 castration
£65 spey
£30 per vaccine
£22.50 consult

Vet 2 charges:
£40 catsration
£70 spey
£15 per vaccine
£14 consult

I'm in Reading and its more expensive here than Leicestershire alot more!

Consultation fees : £18
Vacc Myxi + VHD : £40ish
Spay : £65
Neuter ( Male) : £55

Although as Oscar chewed his stiches when he was done I ended up spending over £100 on the neuter then all the extra jabs. The vets were good though as I had to go back for 4 post op checks and they never charged me.

Ex-pen-sive!

I pay £11.50 per vaccine; £38.00 for a castrate and £58.00 for a spay.

This is in Cumbria, where rabbits aren't too popular; and proper rabbit care isn't either!

I never really know how much the consult is - about £5 I think, but they often waive it.
Vaccinations are £11-12 and Ops around £50.
We live in the East Midlands, and are very lucky that we have vets who are good and who don't charge the earth.
