Yet Another Failed Bonding For Hal :-(

Jack's-Jane

Wise Old Thumper
I know I said I would never attempt bonding Hal again after about 6 previous 'fails' with different Does over a 2 year period. However, he and Bobbie appeared to be very friendly with each other whilst Hal was in his run and Bobbie was free-range in the garden. So I decided to give bonding them a go.
For almost an hour all seemed calm

About 10 minutes after I took this piccie all hell broke loose and there was a massive fight. As always happens Hal was attacked  It was a real rolling about full on fight   Thankfully neither Bobbie nor Hal were seriously injured and I have now seperated them.
Why does everyBun hate Hal.......:?

I now officially give up trying to find him a friend. He'll just have to make do with me

Aw poor Hal.....

I chatted with a lady recently who had tried attempt upon attempt at bonding a very *uhum 'proud' bunny with several different does, every attempt failed and they eventually let him be for - if I rememebr rightly - a few years. Once he'd 'matured' they decided to give it another go with a doe that wasnt too pretty, wasnt too racy, but as it turns out she was the perfect one for him

I know it is a slightly different situation because in this case it the buck who was extremely fussy about chosing his partner, but it did eventually work out, there was the 'one' out there for him :D

Maybe its worth returning to it at a later date? Or just keeping a look out for that special someone ;)

Awww Jane, that's so sad, poor little guy... do you think he has an odor problem?!

Maybe he does just want to stay with you so intentionally annoys the ladies!

oh dear poor hal...he looks very sweet to me. Why don't you sit him in a room with some paul McKenna (You are a strong and confident bunny, women fall instantly at your feet) or maybe some assertivness training with apache.

I really am not brave enough to try bonding Hal with my only single buck, Michael...........

The very thought makes me reach for the valium

I have a guinea pig who is the same. You've tried your best Jane.

Not all animals want to share their turf I guess

Hi Jane,

This might be a bit far fetched, but you never know...

Does Hal suffer from a disease or some kind which does make him smell differntly?

The reason for asking..... I had a bad bonding, unexplainable and later on ,we discovered the female had a uterus infection. Now, looking back at everything that happend with the behavioural specialist who helped me with the process of bonding , she started talking about odours and the importance of them to bunnies. She said that is was very well possible that because of the infection, the female was not "constant", she might have smelled different at different days due to the infection she had at her uterus and this might have made it impossible for the male to recognise her as being always the same rabbit....

Now yours is a different story, but since you said it went well first and the attacks came later... I was just thinking if there is a hormonal/smell problem, that is only detectable for other rabbits???

Well if he has any sort of disease he's had it for 2 years as that's how long I have been trying to bond him :?
