View Full Version : Esme- PM Report

Jack's-Jane
11-11-2007, 06:18 PM
Esme has 'not been right' for some time  She had an episode of headtilt and was treated for infection and EC.
She then developed respiratory symptoms (dry sneezes, increased respiratory effort) She has had 2 different abx and her symptoms have not resolved. She is now spending a lot of time propping her front end up to assist her breathing

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b27/Jan-bun/Rabbits2/Picture1570.jpg

The symptoms she has fit with what I have seen before with Buns who have a cancer in their chest  Esme is eating but has lost some weight
She will see Christobel tomorrow morning.

poor little Esme, she is gorgeous. I do hope you are wrong Jane, but her symptoms sound similar to what my little charlie had and he had a tumour in his chest, I lost him nearly 3 years ago now

Sending lots of good vibes to Esme and hoping her problems are curable.

Thea & Bobbin
12-11-2007, 12:06 PM
Oh no poor Esme, she is one of my favorite RU bunnies, so sweet and beautiful, I'm sure if Bobbin saw her he would fall in love too. I really hope she's ok and whatever it is turns out to be less serious as you think Jane, I hope Christobel can help her and make her better.

Please give her lots of nose rubs and vibes from me xxx

Jack's-Jane
12-11-2007, 12:34 PM
Well Christobel agrees that Esme *probably* has a cancer in her chest
Obviously an Xray would confirm this. But it would be another stressful car journey for Esme (the Xray equipment is at the main surgery) and it would not give us any more treatment options
So Esme will be kept as comfortable as possible and we will take one day at a time. If her respiratory effort worsens or if she stops eating or becomes depressed we will have to let her go

I have just spoken with the duty Vet. She has agreed that I just keep Esme warm and comfortable. She says the bradycardia may be due to the tumour effecting the venous return of blood to Esme's heart and that it sounds as though she is closing down.
I will take Esme to the Emergency Vet to be helped to The Bridge if she becomes at all distressed. But at the moment she is comfortable, safe and warm. I think she will just slip away

She has just eaten a few greens but then went back to bed. She is not distressed and is on analgesia just incase she has some pain. Although careful examination has not revealed any sign that she is.

Poor little Bunny  She is only about 2

The fact that she lived with her *entire* Brother for almost a year (when at the hell-hole she came from) yet did not conceive makes me wonder if there has always been something 'not right' with her :?

Sending vibes for a peaceful passing + comfort vibes for Brian, poor little man.

Knowing that you're doing the right thing, doesn't make it any less heartbreaking. Vibes for you too Jane. x

Christobel says Esme had tumours on her lungs  and an abnormal Liver  The 'mass' I felt in her abdomen was dried faeces which got 'stuck' as her guts shut down due to the Cancer

We dont know if this was a Cancer that origionated in her Uterus. She was spayed about 11 months ago. But Meg died from a Lung Cancer 11 months after her spay too

Spaying a Bun with a Uterine Carcinoma insitu is clearly not always curative......

You did all you could for her. Life can be so cruel.

How is Brian? Is so heartbreaking seeing them on their own

I've only just caught up with this. I'm so sorry Jane   Esme looked so sweet, as others have said Esme finally knew real love. She was sent to you to learn what love is and will take that with her to the bridge. I hope Brian is OK, it's amazing how devoted a pair of bunnies can be. Thinking of you xxxx
