  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Young Bun
what scale do you use?

I have overwieght german lop and I thought save me going to vet every week to weight her, why can I do at home.. (I dont see the vet or nurse.. just pop to use the scale) I weight my guinea pigs on cooking scale.. my german lop wont fit in there!!

what do you use to weight your buns??

Jane do you find the baby scales are accurate? I have a pair and the weight seems to vary depending on whereabouts on the scale I put the bun, how its weight is spread etc. If I use a pet carrier, it also varies depending on how I put the carrier on the scales :?

For Santa I too use digital kitchen scales as they are accurate to the gram, much more useful with little ones - and they were about a fiver in Argos I believe!

 weigh yourself on your bathroom scales and then weigh yourself holding the bun and the difference is his weight - that is what I do with Barney my rex. I way Nettle on kitchen scales atm but he is tiny.

i weigh my big fat rabbit on the kitchen scales by putting a lasagne dish on them, then putting her in the dish. she *just* fits!
