  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Try PM'ing Beebop ( do a search on the member's list) She is in Belfast
Also another member over your way is Mart.

It sounds as though your Bun has Encephalitizoon Cuniculli (EC) Has she had any treatment ?

Hi  Nice to see you found us!! I hope you manage to find a good rabbit-savvy vet soon. Then at least you can be confident that you've explored all the options. Can you remember what the vet called your bunny's condition?

It sounde very much like encephalitozoon cuniculi or EC for short.

Did your vet give you any Panacur (fenbendazole)?

Does your rabbit have cataracts (white spots or opaque white pupils)?

Opps - just saw this

I pm'd you with a link to a couple of vets - probably only 1 will suit as it's Belfast (south'ish) near Forestside shopping centre.

It does sound like EC, but could be other things too.

I don't think (very uneducated opinion though) that EC is a reason for not vaccinating (Myxi / Cylap).

Have also pm'd you! Mines not too far from Forestside either, did you recommend Gortlands Mart?

Nope - not used them before - what are they like ?

The one that we had used near there was Cedar Grove, although we've not been there for quite a while as we live to far away from there now (much closer to Newcastle now).
