Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Scabby inner ear! What is it?

Young Bun
Hi there and good morning.
As Oakley is most timid and detests being touched or held I often find it hard to give her a once over but I did manage this morn.

I discovered that one of her ears is very scabby inside. She has always been one for scratching and today I found out why. I haven't been able to have a proper look as she kicks and goes crazy.
Any ideas on the cause? Mites? She has lost a lot of hair aswell (she's a lion/lop and lost her maine)

I shall phone the vets in a few minutes to get an appointment.

Cheers for noo

Michael. B

Sounds like mites to me
A course of Ivermectin from the Vet should sort it out. Its important to get a Vet to check inside Oakley's ears as sometimes a secondary infection can occur as a result of a mite infestation

Yeah definately sounds like ear mites... my bun Caramel had them and I suspect Lily has them now too but like your bun she is a nightmare to handle... Think we will be off to the vets for treatment.
