No experience of this breed.....how big would you expect a 6 months old doe to be?

Tamsin

About the same as a smallish french lop I think - 4kg ish?

Blimey.

So at four months about the size of a large dwarf lop then ? :?

Tamsin

Umm, maybe a little bigger even! I'm not sure how quickly they grow :?

Not sure about ultimate sizes, but i'd expect them to be pretty quick growers - based on what people usually breed NZ whites for.

Not sure of the growth rates, but ' think' they can reach 10-12lb when adults. I've never owned one, but have heard they are a bit like Frenchies in their temperment.

Looking at your sig no way she is a NZW! I'd say a pretty crossbreed.

WalnutEarth626, would you say my Scipio is a pure NZWhite or not?
To me, he has the same look about him, but seems a little small... :?

Im trying to work out where to put a pair of them :? owner has only had them about 6 weeks and apparently she 'didnt realise they would cost so much'.

They are not neutered or vaccs so what excatly she is spending money on is a bit of a mystery

'Has she been neutered?'
'Has she been what?'
'Speyed, sterilised?'
'I dont know what that means?'

'Have they had their jabs?'
'I didnt know they needed any.'

   I knew what neutering was when I was younger, and I'd only ever had hamsters!!! So they werent neutered but at least I knew what it was!

Ive got a NZ cross with a giant and she weighs 6.5Kg.

She's a super bunny!

I adopted her from the P@H board - no-one wanted her because she was so big! She weighed 2.91Kg at about 15 weeks, but she is a cross so I think maybe true NZ are slightly smaller.

I LOVE her so much:love: life wouldnt be so happy or fun without her!

Definaltey the best decision I ever made!

She's a house bun too

Sooz

Most certainly rehome them!

I try only to keep rabbits for health reasons.

No, I wouldn't have said so. NZWs are were bred for pelt as well as meat, so have very thick dense coats with long harsh guard hairs. Your boy looks to have quite a short soft coat so I would guess hes another pretty cross.

I would say that Scipio DOES have a VERY strong NZW influence, aside from his somewhat less dense coat.....he is conformationally correct.....and absolutely STUNNING!!!!!:D When I lived in the US, a woman that I used to work with had a huge rabbitry. She always swore that they were for showing ONLY......but I always found it MOST peculiar that all of the breeds that she bred were traditionally ones bred for that OTHER unpleasant purpose.:? Anyway, one day she asked me if I would like to have a six month old NZW doe that she had. It was one that she had bred and planned on keeping, but decided that she was keeping too many so decided to part with a few. As my first ever bunny when I was a kid was a gorgeous NZW, I leapt at the chance to have her. I collected her that weekend.....and three weeks later she gifted me with 7 MORE delightful little surprise packages!    But I kept every one of the babies......so over the course of the next 9 years I had 8 gorgeous big white fluffy snowballs! I have always loved the breed, as I do New Zealand Reds, who are equally stunning!:D :D :D

Yup, theres 4 different Zele varieties, Red, White, Black and Blue. Interestingly the Red has a completely different breed standard to the other 3.

In what way? In that hes a big white rabbit with sticky up ears? Thats the problem with some of the fur breeds, until you can get your hands on their coat you just can't tell! Someone emailed me a poor photo of their black sticky up earred rabbit asking if it was an Alaska. My response was, possibly, but could also be a small vienna black, a small NZ black, a black siberian, or just a cross!

American NZW are also completely different to our NZW.

Scipio may possibly have NZW in his background I suppose but I wouldn't be placing any bets on it. I'm still sticking to my guess of a pretty cross :)

In what way? In that hes a big white rabbit with sticky up ears?

:?

In that he has the body shape, ear carriage, and head shape of a NZW. I also did NOT say that I thought he was a pure NZW, because he isn't. I simply said that he I would say that he has a NZW influence....i.e. that he has NZW in his lineage somewhere.....translation: crossbreed. I therefore find the sarcasm totally uncalled for.

This is my Princess. She is ALSO a 'a big white rabbit with sticky up ears'. Could she be mistaken for a NZW? I wouldn't hardly THINK so. Her head is too small, and is not the right shape. Her ears are too small. Her body is too short and cobby. She really has NO conformational characteristics of a NZW......other than her white coat, sticky up ears, and red eyes. MANY people show NZWs.....and if they were just 'big white rabbits with sticky up ears' with no particular breed characteristics, judging would be a tad difficult. There is much more to it than just the coat.

http://i211.photobucket.com/albums/bb129/March-Hare/APrincess2.jpg

I would have been MORE than happy to clarify what I meant had you simply asked 'In what way?' The 'In that he is a big white rabbit with sticky up ears?' comment was completely unnecessary.

Scip says "i'm sorry for causing an argument... I've decided that I don't really mind what I am... can I just have a nose-rub instead?"

He could NEVER cause an argument! He is far too gorgeous.....and he can have all of the nose rubs that he wants from me!!!!!:D :D

My Princess is a bit of a hodge-podge breed wise......she's probably about a bazillion different breeds all whizzed up together......but she is still my Princess, and I love her to pieces!!!!!

I had a new zealand white, Harvey (r.i.p :() & he was huge! We had a large run for him but eventually he outgrew it so we had to bunny proof the garden & let him free range. He had a tendancy to be aggressive if he was frightened or annoyed about something, but i think that was more to do with the fact he didn't have a very good start in life - everything i've read about them has said they are generally a very friendly breed. You'res are beauties

NZW's & NZR's are my faves after the humble Harlequin

Had a young cross bred NZ White a few years ago, sadly he was stolen and killed  But I've always said when I move out I'll have a pair of NZ's free range
