  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Dislocated toe

fiver & tenor

Young Bun
Anyone had experience of this? My bunny got caught up in a chair throw and was thrashing around and has now dislocated her toe. The nail and toe is sitting at a 90 degree angle facing up the way. I took her to the vets, they have never seen this before, but as Tenor isn't lame of complaining at all, we are just leaving it be. If it becomes problematic, then we will have to amputate her toe. Poor bunny...

Hello

My Jessica had her toe dislocated at the vets because they mishandled her properly when they got her out and caught her toe :censored:

Her toe was kind of 'hanging off' as so to speak and was at a completely different angle to the rest of her foot. It was at the same time she was speyed so she was in a lot of pain! it was x rayed at the vet said it would probably heal naturally without any aids... she limped for a couple of days but after that she was fine. Her toe is back to normal now, she just looks like she has a camels foot now

I would say though to make sure your bunny has pain killers for the first few days, as you can imagine it will be painful to walk on!
