  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Hi everyone

The vets opens at 2 and i am wondering if i should go there for when it opens, this is a pic of Lionels abcess it has split open and hes just laying down on his side i think hes in pain but i don't want to go there if its nothing to worry about the vet already thinks i am crazy lol What do you think? Its only open for 2 hours thats why i thought i would be there when it opens.

Yes I would definitely take him, apart from the obvious that it's not nice to be in pain, it can make buns stop eating and that can be very dangerous for them. I'm certain your vet won't think you're crazy for taking a bun with a split abscess in (and even if they do, who cares!)

If you're at all worried go..a vet should not criticise you for being careful..it's the people who don't bother going that they should worry about..afterall you pay for their services..
Keep us posted

Better to go whilst it's open and get it checked than leave it and need to go when it's emergency appointments only :)

Do you go to Christabel or do you use a vet closer to home? I doubt that Christabel would call you crazy. I'd rather take him during normal opening hours and make sure he gets some pain relief etc.. If it gets worse then you may have to pay the extra fees for out of hours treatment, too.

 We are back

Nothing too bad just the wond split open all cleaned and glued back together now, also where he had his castration the stitch had to come out and that had to be glued as well, poor Lionel nothing is easy for him!
Got to go back for a check up on thursday, so glad i went.
