  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Floss's eye: Photo

Floss was on Tiacil for 10 days, but it didn't seem to have much effect so she was put on Fucithalmic on Thursday. The entire iris was opaque and then white, but it does now seem to be starting to clear from the bottom lid up, so hopefully it's on the mend at last. I took this picture at lunchtime:

Awwwww poor wee Floss
Corneal ulcers can take weeks to heal. Sometimes it is suggested that the inner eyelid is sutured closed so the eye is constantly protected. That would be a last resort though. Hopefully a few more weeks of treatment will bring about healing

I think that's why she also has the "contact lens" meds. It forms a protective barrier. That's why it has to be put in 20 minutes after the fucithalmic, otherwise the fucithalmic wouldn't be able to penetrate and do its job.

Thanks, I'll pass the nose rubs on !! She's got so used to having drops in that I don't have to hold her down now. She just stands on the table and waits for her reward( a mini shreddie), bless her.
