A question about cruelty prosecutions...

When a cruelty prosecution gets to court and the owner is convicted and fined......who is the fine paid to?

Do the RSPCA receive it?

Just interested as in America the owners have to pay costs the prosecuting Humane Society.

I'd guess it was whichever organisation was bringing the prosecution and incurring the costs of bringing the case and treating the animal:? although I can't think of any other org apart from RSPCA bringing forward a proscution in this country:?

AFAIK there's the fine which goes wherever fines usually go and then costs which go to the people prosecuting (eg rspca) to cover their expenses.

So the owner never contributes to the RSPCA for taking care of the animal....only recovers their expenses for the prosecution?

The law is so much better in the US, their humane society officers have nearly the same powers as the police in some states.
