  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

poppy's foot

When I got poppy her leg had already been broken somehow and as her previous owners had just "not noticed" it set really crookedly so she walks on the wrong part of it. I was checking her over today and there are two sort of weird little hairless patches, I guess where shes putting weight on a bit that shouldnt have weight on it. Is this and issue? Should I do anything? I took a photo. :D

Poor bun - is she okay apart from that.

What does vet say? Will she have to have leg broke and re-set.

How can someone not notice if a bun has a broken leg:evil:

I had her at the vet as soon as i got her, a year ago. the vet said that as she could run around fine then breaking and resetting was just going to be painful and unnecessary, but to keep an eye on the underneath of her foot to check its ok.

I honestly dont know how someone can not notice a broken leg. The only excuse i can give is that rabbits being prey animals are excellent at hiding their injuries. The lass who had her before me is well meaning but not really intelligent enough to look after a rabbit, she'd not been spayed, vacc'd or ever handled. here is a quote: "you can have this rabbit if you want but you might want to take it to the vet cos its leg looks a bit twisted". Its at a complete right angle!!!

rant over
