Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Need help (ie JANE)

Bunnytod

Well Harley has been having 0.8ml of baytril and 15ml of fibreplex twice a day for 3 days for his little lump, The first couple of times it was easy to do but he has started to get really disstressed when we do it now, This morning as i was holding him to inject it he started biting his paw really hard and aggressvly, Not sure what to do he is getting worse everytime and it'd so distressing to do, is there a easier way.

Have you tried wrapping him securely in a big towel? That usually helps to settle a frightened bun and prevents them from struggling too much and possibly damaging themselves whilst administering meds.

I'm not Jane, but I'll answer anyway ;) How are you going about it? Can someone help you? I find it much easier to syringe meds if my husband holds the bunny and I syringe.

When you say 'injecting' are you actually meaning giving the abx by sub/cut injection or do you mean orally via syringe?

If the latter try dipping the filled syringe in some honey/jam to disguise the bitter taste of the Baytril.
Completely wrapping him in a towel as Vicki suggests is a good idea too.
Being 'firm and fast' is the best way to go when giving oral meds. But do make sure you administer the meds horizontally across his mouth, not vertically straight down his throat

Yeah its orally. My other had does it and i hold him, I will try the towel tonight and get some honeyjam tommorow. With the fibreplex he spilts it out we get it in his mouth he chew's it for a second and stickes his tongue out and it falls out

Just to stick my oar in here! I mixed the baytril in with a tiny bit of mashed banana (special treat if they are poorly -not norm!!) and Charlie takes it all! Worth a try??

I have found Fibreplex hard to administer too. All my Buns seem to hate it
How about mixing it in with a teaspoonful of soaked whole oats ?

I find with the Fibreplex, it's easier to try to do it in 2 stages, as it's just too much at once otherwise, and it all comes out again.

My 2 hated it at first, but Clover loves it now! Always a bonus! :? :)

With the fibreplex, I had to get it on my finger and smear it on Luuna's incisors before she would eat it. She was just spitting it out before too! Both my two have had fibreplex today and yesterday as one has a bit of a funny tum. I'm pretty sure I know which one, but just incase. Luuna has now decided she loves it   Some went on the carpet yesterday and shes trying to pull up and eat that patch
