  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Floss's eye update

capel

Warren Veteran
Well, vet is a bit concerned about Floss's eye and has changed her from Tiacil to Fulcithalmic as the Tiacil hasn't worked as well as expected. The ulceration is worse although the redness isn't quite as bad. So now she's on that 3x daily followed half an hour after each dose with a drop of Eye protector which acts like a contact lens. We are supposed to be going away tomorrow till Monday, so will have to see how Gordon copes with doing these meds before we decide to go or not. This break has been booked for a year! If push comes to shove we could always nip back 3 times a day(roundtrip of nearly100 miles), but that would mean missing out on the dance classes. (We are going to the Jump,Jive Boogie weekend at Boddelwyddan Castle) Still, bunnies come first....

Mentioned our conversation re myxi meds, Jane. I'm taking both buns back on Nov 3rd for their boosters and, meanwhile they are going to make further enquiries about what you told me. They said they are always pleased to be given this kind of input from experienced rabbit owners as Rabbit husbandry is such a steep learning curve..even for vets!!!:)

How careless am I? After telling Rog and Gordon all about her latest meds routine and showing Gordon at lunchtime how to do it, I took the instruction label off the "contact lens" type med bottle so that I could read the manufacturer's details . Fortunately I'd left the label on the table because when I came back from town this afternoon Rog said that according to the label she's meant to have the "lens" drops only twice a day(Not 3x as I'd said!). I rang the vet up to see if they'd made a mistake when typing it out, and ... no, She is meant to have it only TWICE!. In future I'll read and re-read all meds instructions properly!!

Awwwww poor Floss. I hope her eye is not too sore. I expect its taking a bit of time to heal as her immune system has taken a real hammering.
Hopefully the Fucithalmic will bring about an improvement.
