Off to the vets already!

Well last night the rescue centre woman couldn't make it round to check om Morris, I understand she is busy. What I don't understand is how the two lumps on Morris went unoticed.

One is really large like a grape size, and it doesn't look good! It black and ozing pus!! :( The other is like a grain of rice which I have only seen on a dog - so I think it might be a tick?)

So today at 4pm the earliest appointment I could get we are off to the vets. I just hope and pray its nothing serious.

Please send healing vibes to him  I feel out of my depth already. The lovely rescue lady is very busy and I don't blame her but I feel a bit abandoned myself.

I hope the Vet can sort out what sounds like it may be an abscess on Morris.
Please let us know how you get on

Good Luck!!

It does sound like an abcess. Michelle had an abcess last year. She recovered really well after antibiotics but she still gets little porridgey lumps under her skin. I think she will forever. I hope they can sort him out. The vet will probably squeeze it at first so prepare for cottage cheesey pus!!

Thank you everyone! I have been reading far too many horror stories on the internet looking for what it could be. One woman in America was saying that the lump on her rabbit was black and she squeezed it herself and then started pulling out a long thin white string thing which was a worm! I think thats what has got me so worked up. There were about 30 horrified posts after hers with people telling her to leave alone and let the vet take a look!

OK a lumpy Morris I can deal with, as long is its not life threatening. Some creamy cheese pus did come out yesterday.:? I promise to let you know how it goes. only 4 hours! ahhhhh

Does sound like an abcess - and they can pop up very quickly so it might have been that it was a lot smaller rather than going unnoticed. Fingers crossed it's easy enough to sort out :)

Bad News!

I must be the worst bunny mummy ever! Morris has gone back to the rescue centre! A whole host of issues including abcesses arose and I didn't feel confident enough dealing with them all. I am hopeless.

The vet peeled back the black crust on top and opened up at least the size of a £2 coin size crater. He was brutally honest and said that it didn't bowed well for such a young bun. He checked him thoroughly and found 5 more! I have never seen anything like that, a massive hole in the side of him. Poor mite.

He said that Morris would always have them all over and that he suggested I contact the rescue home to take him back as he would need a specialist home preferably indoors. I can't have a house bun as the house in rented and although the landlord agreed to a bun it has to be outside.

I don't know whether I did the right thing giving him back. But when the lady from the center called to see him, she said that she felt awful because she hadn't noticed the lumps and that the vet was right he would probably be best as a house bun, IF he survived.

She doesn't blame me but I do. Perhaps i should give up, I don't seem to have much luck and I have been in streams of tears since. Morris is apparently happily munching away in a nice indoor cage at her house. She is taking him to her vets in the morning.

xx

Aww, I'm so sorry it wasn't good news :( Don't feel bad, you knew that it was best for Morris to go and be a house bun where he could get the care he needs and so thought of him first.

I think you did the right thing. I hope you are not put off by your experience. Most rescue bunnies are fit and healthy :D

I would love a pair of bonded rescue buns. I hope I am worthy. I just tried to do the best by Morris, but I feel such an idiot. I felt like a kid at the vets.

I will get another one/two. If anyone trusts me, let me know. I am in Hertfordshire. The hutch might be too small for two buns though - its 61" across x 22" wide and 22" depth I plan to get a bigger one but can't afford it yet. I also brought the run recommended in Tinkers post about his suped up home, the 8 sided metal one with a cover. The buns wouldn't be stuck in the hutch all day as I am going to attach the run to it. My partner works 7 nights on 7 nights off so he is around every other week all day. We brought Morris in to the house every morning to run around and every evening. They would get loads of cuddles and love!
