Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Funny tummy - what could it be?

~bailey~

Mama Doe
Yesterday Bailey refused food (which usually means he is going into stasis), so I felt his tummy which seemed fine (no bloating). Ten minutes later he had done some really weird poos, very dark, mishapen and a bit slimey and was munching away again. Hes still eating and drinking this morning, but his poos are still strange. Normal ones, interspersed with the strange dark ones :? He had a tiny bit of veg on Sunday night, but his tummy was fine til Tuesday night, so surely this can't be it? He had no pellets last night either, just hay, so I thought he would be back to normal now? What could it be?

ETA: Oh, the strange ones aren't caecotrophs!

I would suggest he has a gut imbalance and may need some fiberplex or probiotics for a few days to top up his good gut flora.

Ok, thanks :) Poor boy doesn't have a very robust tummy :( I'll have to get extra fibreplex from the vets, although I know its cheaper offline  Where can I get probiotics from? I can't see any on the HE or BB websites, can it be bought from petshops?

The fiberplex contains lots of probiotics but if her has consistent tummy issues and you want to use them long term then Vetrak Avi-Pro plus may be better.....you can get this offline.

P@H sell Pro-C......If your really desperate :?

Because its P@H, but also it had chlorophyll in it for some unknown reason and it turns the water a yucky green colour. Otheriwse its almost the smae as the AviPro.

You can use it for a couple of weeks and then offer it once a week just to 'top up' his good bacteria....oh dear that sounds like Yakult dosnt it
