  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

My two are insured with Pet Protect - but not had to use them yet thankfully! A lot of people use Petplan as well.

Hi - there was a thread on this a while ago. A lot of the companies that insure cats and dogs don't do rabbits and the ones that do seem to be more expensive than a cat. But a lot of people seem to use pet plan - i saw a leaflet in my vets this week and petplan are giving away 6 weeks free rabbit insurance at the moment.

I've decided just to save money monthly as the insurers tend to have a £50 excess charge. So a number of illnesses or things that need dealing with wouldn't be worth claiming on your insurance!

Petplan do free months and also its cheaper to do annual policies. My premium came out at about £9 per month which is just a bit less than what I pay per cat, but I can recommend them for dealing with claims they were brilliant and very quick when my cat needed treatment after his run in with a car, £1700 it cost them in the end so well worth it considering I hadnt had the policy a year!

i use petplan..... i had them for my cat and there was no messing when i had to claim.... i would do the saving thing but i really cant save so i need pet insurance......lol
