I (sorry my buns) want to do a secret santa!!! :D

Just about to PM you......

Could there be a recommended amount to spend as this would make it fair for each bunny and we (I) won't be worrying I haven't spent enough?

XMissySJx
17-10-2007, 01:40 PM
well i did think about it but then some people can afford different ammounts, just spend however much you feel comfortable with, because no pressie is too small! x

Okies here are our three Happy Hoppers permenants and their histories:

Pippa

Arrived in April this year as her owner could not afford to keep her. She was grossly overweigth with long claws. The worst part is that she has tumours on a third of her body.

We disscussed operating on her but she is an old girly (nearly 7 now) and it would have been a 2 part operation. The chances of her pulling through the first op were slim and the second nigh on impossible so we decided it was not the right thing to do.

However she is a happy, friendly and energetic bunny so we did not want her PTS but knew she couldnt be rehomed. I decided we should keep Pippa and she has outlasted all our expectations. We know eventually the day will come when she will need to be helped to the bridge but for the time being she is having a ball and we love having her about.

Bobby is a large REW boy who arrived here in June this year. He came to us because his owner was finding it very hard to bond him with another rabbit and felt keeping him alone was not fair on him.

We knew when he arrived that he would be unhomeable because he has a lot of trouble with his eyesight and also had to have his incisors removed.

We decided to bond him with Pippa who we felt needed a friend but to be honest we were not expecting this to work out, Bobby tends to start fights and then realises he is unable to defend himself adequately with just his gums!!

Anyway we persevered for 3 weeks and now Bobby and Pippa are inseperable and totally smitten with each other :D

Caspian is our resident newbie and has only been here since September.

He came from a backyard breeder along with 2 nethies. We were informed he was a mixed breed rabbit, but how wrong they were....Caspian is a beautiful tri-colour dutch, if they had known I am positive he would have been sold on again

He was and is still underweight and also has chronic problems with his gasto-intestinal tract....we nearly lost him to bloat and stasis two weeks ago but pulled him through with intensive nursing and he was on 6 medicines and 3 injections a day.

Caspian is now on a special diet for his sensitive tummy and once stabilised he will be going under GA for tests, examinations and also his castration.

We do not know exactly what is wrong with him yet but it is almost certain he will need specialised care for the rest of his life which will also be quite costly so he has become a permenant Happy Hopper.

thanks sooz!

have added them to my list!

everyone, sooz pointed out that some bunnies if they were being rehomed may not be there by christmas (which is of course a good thing!)

so we are sending permanent residents a gift, BUT if this becomes really successfuly some of you will not have a 'named' secret santa as we can just send extra pressies to be shared around! hope this okay! but we wil do permanent residents first!!

Hope has been with us 2 years this month . She was left on my doorstep in a terrible state . She had diorreah, flystrike and hyperthermia. She was only around 8 weeks old.
Her recovery took months and then she had teeth trouble . more recently she has had a brain infection or EC we are not sure which , but we almost lost her.

She is now doing well:D :D

this is Sweetpea . She is a wild bunny and was brought to us as a baby . Tracey hand reared her. Our original intentions were to release her but even though she wasnt handled much she still got too tame to risk letting her go back to the wild .

when she was tiny she used to play with Traceys housebun Scamp and even though she went back to her own hutch at night they never fell out . In the end Tracey brought her in to live as a house bun with Scamp.

ARC have a number of long term residents. Here are Bobby and Brian who for their sins were born as 'black' bunnies and are always overlooked when people view bunnies  They arrived into the care of ARC in January 2005 aged 13 weeks old as a result of a situation where Portslade Animal Rescue (Sussex) were asked to take in 47 rabbits that were in danger of being put to sleep. ARC had offered to take in 3 dutch x belgium hare crosses, however instead Bobby and Brian arrived with their brother who was rehomed over 2 years ago.

Despite many appeals for a home, Bobby and Brian remain 'living' at ARC for the past 34 month. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y190/girlie1310/brianandbobbyL.jpg

ARC also have Jack and Jessie, these are 2 buns who came from another rescue via a bunnyrun. They are a pair of dwarf cross bunnies - Mother and son. Black one is Jessie and grey/white is Jack. They have been in foster by Sally for ARC for the past 2 years, people are put off this pair of buns as they can nip.

ARC also have Tyler is a black and white dutch rabbit who has come into the care of ARC following a phone call from a forum member who had met a breeder on a train who wanted to reduce their numbers due to a family illness. He has been in the care of ARC for just over a year and is finding a new home a little difficult as many prospective owners are put off by his growling and tendency to nip.

ARC also have Pongo and Perdy both dutch bunnies who have been in the care of ARC for almost a year, these rabbits again are putting prospective owners off due to their tendency to nip.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y190/girlie1310/trevor3.jpg

Paula is a grey 5 year old lop and Trevor is a 3 year old white with small patches of brown, he is a lionhead.

Paula and Trevor were handed into ARC as a pair of very neglected rabbits! Poor Trevor's nails were so long he could hardly walk and Paula was so overweight her rear end was just one hard lump of poo were she couldn't reach to clean herself. She was also suffering an eye infection and had overgrown teeth. All of which have been sorted now.

Even though they are still a little shy, they really are a lovely pair of rabbits and enjoy running around stretching their legs.

These two rabbits have been in our care for over a year. Paula and Trevor are probably going to end up staying as long term foster buns as Paula has tooth problems and can get a wet bum if not kept very clean.

Here's two from Hopper Haven

Orchid and Daffodil

They are both around 6 years old and are permanent residents at Hopper Haven.
Daffodil came to the sanctuary via the RSPCA, and had been given up by her previous owner after her husbun died and they didn't want to replace him.
She suffers from chronic ear infections, which is why she will stay at the sanctuary.
Orchid also suffers from recurrent ear infections and snuffles, so she was bonded with Daffodil and became a permanent resident also.
They are both gorgeous bunnies who put up with lots of daily meds, and a Christmas pressie would give them both a cheer:D

http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t104/Neil-and-Maria/Misc/HPIM0390Flopsy.jpg
Flopsy (Female) Ė 4yrs old, Magpie Lop-eared. Flopsy came into rescue at 12mths old, she had been beaten with sticks and was a very frightened little rabbit that lacked confidence and didnít trust humans. She can still be a little wary, and will go and hide until she knows I am there and then she will come out. She does love to play and dig and has a soft spot for chocolate buttons and a rich tea biscuit. Flopsy as been with us now for 4yrs

http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t104/Neil-and-Maria/Misc/HPIM0392Smudge.jpg
Smudge (Male) Ė 3.5yrs old Harlequin Lop. Smudge came to me at just 12weeks old, he hadnít been mistreated in anyway, he came to me for his holiday and on return the owners daughter thought it better he stay with me as she was frightened that he may get hurt because he was only tiny. He is a cheeky little fella and as now decided he wanted to be friends with Flopsy so they both now live together.

http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t104/Neil-and-Maria/Misc/Millie.jpg
Millie Ė (Female) 3yr old Dwarf Lop. Millie came into rescue because her owners just hadnít got the time for her anymore and she had lost her partner. She is a very friendly rabbit and loves a cuddle. She bonded with Shaky as soon as she came into the rescue and they are both inseparable now. Unfortunately Millie has lost her partner Shaky and is missing him very much

http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t104/Neil-and-Maria/Misc/HPIM0397Fudge.jpg
Fudge (Female) Ė 4yrs old, Large lop eared. Fudge is the mum of Shaky and she is a big cuddly bun who just loves being with her partner Doodles. She is a bit incontinent so she has to be bathed every day to stop her from becoming sore. Unfortunately Fudge as recently lost her partner and is now living with Simba and his partner

http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t104/Neil-and-Maria/Misc/HPIM0391.jpg
Bella (Female) Ė 1yr old, Sooty fawn lop eared. I brought Bella into rescue as I had a phone call from a friend who worked at a pet shop and Bella had been brought back because she had a runny nose. The pet shop was going to have her put to sleep so I took her. After various tests at my vets she as an irritation up her nose and so every six to eight weeks we have to insert drops up her nose and this clears it. She is a lovely friendly bun who loves you to talk to her.

http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t104/Neil-and-Maria/Misc/HPIM0400Simba.jpg
Simba (Male) Ė 3yrs old, Lionhead lop. Simba came into rescue as a stray, he had been subjected to some neglect as he had holes pierced in his ears and had a few abscesses on his back. After a couple of operations and a proper diet he as recovered totally. Simba did go to a new home and was brought back because they had gone and got a dog, so Simba is now staying put with me. He decided he wanted to live with one of my own rabbits and is very happy now.

http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t104/Neil-and-Maria/Misc/HPIM0396Oliver.jpg
Oliver (Male) - 6 mths old Half Wild Rabbit. Oliver came into rescue via my vets as a dog had attacked him. It has left Oliver lame on his right leg due to a airline fracture, he copes really well with it doesnít need medication at this moment in time but will need pain relief and anti-inflammatory at some stage as it as caused severe arthritis. Oliver is a very soft gentle bun who loves attention and a cuddle.

I will try to add photos soon
edit - photos have now been added :D

Here are a few of our permanant fosters

First we have Mack & Mabel

http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j87/snowy2006_2006/MackMabel5337x1year.jpg

They arrived a year ago starved near to death, in fact we didn't think Mack would make it through the night, this is their picture when they arrived

http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j87/snowy2006_2006/MackMabel4.jpg

They are still on medication and will be for the rest of their lives, they are two very special bunnies.

Then we have Harriet and Harvey

http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j87/snowy2006_2006/OurBunnies78.07002x2.jpg

I rescued Harvey (REW) from a lady who said she couldn't look after him anymore and gave him up aged 10 years!, he is a lovely boy although he had never had company and sat all alone in his plastic hutch in the garden, I am amazed he survived for all those years, he was so bored.

Harriet was brought to the rescue by her owner aged 8.5 years old she is not neutered and had never been out of her 3 foot hutch, she was very nervous and wherever I put her in the garden she just sat all day long, it was so sad and so I thought she may make a companion for Harvey who was neutered, they have veome inseparable and run around together, they groom each other all day and he is always by her side taking care of her.

I know, it's really amazing, even our vet can't believe how well they have done and we thank God everyday for their wellbeing, and they are two gorgeous bunnies, they have lovely temperaments and each has a fabulous character, we love them to bits.

It would be lovely if they could get a stocking, thanks

Right, these are just 4 of the many permanent buns at Southampton Rabbit Rescue who would love to receive a secret Santa!
Dougal - 10 yrd old full cashmere, came on holiday and never collected. Lot of work with him due to medication and grooming. Such a sweetie.
http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p75/JessicaS023/Dougal_2.jpg

Fudge - 3 yr old rex, with pasturella and now fully recovered from myxi with scaring on face caused by tumours.
http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p75/JessicaS023/Fudge_new.jpg

Bambi - 4 1/2 yrd ols dwarf lop. No teeth, likes to try and suck your finger to death...!! Lives 90% on Heinz Baby food (oat & apple powder). April last year nearly died after going into shock from bloat. In Cardiac arrest, multiple organ failure, hypothermia. Manged to return from the dead and the vet wrote a thesis on her because no animal had come back from that far gone. They pronounced her dead when we arrived and she had a ''death throw'' which made us think she was alive. In 5 minutes i'd never seen such activity in a vets. We had nurses coming out of the woodwork. They told us she would be gone by Christmas 06 as nothing more could be done for her. Try telling that to Bambi.
http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p75/JessicaS023/Bambi_Jan_2007_3.jpg

Buster - 4 1/2 yr old dwarf lop, Cherry eye operation (£120.00) Eye is much better but will never be 100% and weeps constantly. Face has to be washed daily. Lately seems to be getting bad tummy as well. Also known as ''The King of Chaos''
http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p75/JessicaS023/2004_0302Image0017.jpg

There are also 7 buns there with pasteurella. Sarah Jane do you want me to pm the address for you??

Steph's just alerted me, am I too late

Can I put up Nibbles please?

Nibbles and Daisy arrived after they were going to be out to sleep after their owner was killed, they were both ten years old and had problems. Nibbles had a big abcsess in her face and had urines scolding

The day she arrived

After she had the op for her abcsess to be removed

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v642/Tree4836/Picture004-5.jpg

I need to get a recent picture for you, but here she is with her abscess healing with Daisiy. Unfortunmetly Daisy died a couple of weeks ago and she's been left alone after spending ten years of her life with her bunny buddy.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v642/Tree4836/S4020165.jpg

Nibbles is a bit poorly at the minute but it getting better in fact she was at, she now lives upstairs in my house, as she refused to be bonded with another bunny. She has a crate in one of my bedrooms but it is always open and I often find her laid out on the landing carpet snoozing.

OK I have a few more permanent residents from Hopper Haven that would love to receive a stocking, and all of them are looking for sponsors too........

Firstly a group of three, Evensong who is a very shy little girl who is missing a hind foot, she lives with Trevellian who has a deformed/twisted front foot, and Eva, an elderly lady who has baffled the vet with some very strange swellings down her sides.....

Dillon

And the last pair are Valerian, an elderly bun who suffers from head tilt, with Cleo, a 6yr old dwarf lop who looks after Valerian.....

Hello,

I asked Caroline from the Rabbit Residence if she would like to nominate some of the lovely rabbits she has in permenant residence! She sent me back the following list, so I would like to nominat them on her behalf. I hope it's not too late to add them to the list? I've taken the info and detailed off of her website.

Summerbreeze & Morris
http://www.rabbitresidence.org.uk/photos/SummerBreeze_small.jpg
http://www.rabbitresidence.org.uk/photos/Morris_small.jpg

Hello, Iím Morris (second photo) I live with Summerbreeze (first photo). Iím the slimmer one, but we are both so squidgey and cuddly. Caroline has us on mainly a hay and veg diet, as weíre prone to putting weight on easily. I love to sunbath and feel so safe and relaxed- I sometimes scare Caroline because I look like Iím dead! We love our greens and broccoli and weíre very well litter trained. We love timothy hay. Weíre chilled out and laidback and very sociable. We are both a bit 8 years old now, first coming to the rescue in 2001. I am also a headtilt survivor!

Virgil & Grommit
http://www.rabbitresidence.org.uk/photos/Virgil_rr_web.jpg
Hi, my name is Virgil. Iím 7 years old now and have always been quite a delicate rabbit and have dental disease. This means I have to stay at the rescue permanently where Iím guaranteed special care and expert knowledge in case I need medical attention.
http://www.rabbitresidence.org.uk/photos/Grommit_rr.jpg
Hellow! Iím so handsome arenít I! Iím Virgilís special friend, so Iím also at the rescue permanently. This is also because of my fur type. Longhaired rabbits were bred by humans for making wool, but itís so unfair on us. We ought to be kept indoors where our fur is less likely to get matted and itís easier for the owner to groom us daily, but I like bouncing around outside and being a lad! I'm also staring in a calendar this year.

Rainbow and Marbles
http://www.rabbitresidence.org.uk/photos/Marbles_and_Rainbow_small.jpg
Hello, my name is Rainbow and I live with Marbles. Weíre yet another pair of rabbits who have now got health concerns because our owners fed us the wrong diet and kept us in the wrong environment. We've consequently lost some molar teeth, what we have left we have to have rasped. We also have some problems with our eyes so have to have drops of flushed sometimes.

Kind thanks

Hannah

Obviously this is my own opinion (and please no-one jump on me for it!) but I thought the idea of the Secret Santa was a treat for bunnies that for one reason or another can't be rehomed (or nobody has fallen in love with yet).

If we include all the bunnies that forum members have rescued personally I'm sure there would be hundreds!!!! I personally have two I could add!

In the end it will be your descision as you started the Secret Santa (a great idea and congratulations for making it work) but I feel it would be taking away from the original idea that we all wanted to do. x x

These bunnies are permanent buns and one piggie from the Bunnycamp Sanctuary and would love to partake in the secret santa. They deserve a lovely pressie for Christmas!

Fabia

http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o37/drpengie/Sponsor%20Bunnies/Fabia.jpg

The sweetest little Lion Head bunny, female, black. She has been in vets for several weeks being treated for very bad skin disorder due to previous life living with hens. Very affectionate, very easy going, will need ongoing veterinary treatment for skin.

Chrystal

http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o37/drpengie/Sponsor%20Bunnies/Chrystal.jpg

A stunning female silver Dwarf Lop born approx 1.9.99. On arrival had cataract in left eye and one forming in right. Now totally blind. Was unwanted due to stroppy nature after her partner died.

Erica

http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o37/drpengie/Sponsor%20Bunnies/Erica.jpg

Cute and lovely natured female Dutch bunny born July 2002. Unwanted due to owners moving house. Had old, untreated break on back right leg will have mobility problems and arthritis in the future.

Jerry

http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o37/drpengie/Sponsor%20Bunnies/Jerry.jpg

a 5yr old male piggy who came in with very severe wounds from being put with two young male piggies who bullied him. He is very friendly and likes a cuddle.

Pat

http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o37/drpengie/Sponsor%20Bunnies/Pat.jpg

Black male, domestic bunny born Nov.2003. Came in with 5 bunnies lived in a run with bucket and hay for a bed. Had Pasturella and 2 large nasty abscesses on arrival, Pasturella will recur therefore requires constant care and Veterinary treatment. Very nervous & shy.

Pete

http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o37/drpengie/Sponsor%20Bunnies/Pete.jpg

came into the Sanctuary in June 2006 he was very small although fully grown. His little boy bits were very badly damaged and infected due to living with other male bunnies, as boys don't get on very well. The damage was put right but he still needs a lot of TLC

Brooklyn

http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o37/drpengie/Sponsor%20Bunnies/Brooklyn.jpg

A dwarf lop who was brought into the sanctuary by an RSPCA inspector he had been found wandering the streets. He was a little thin and was not eating so was taken to the vets and checked and it was found that his back teeth were in a very severe state so they were filed down and will need doing frequently.

Starskey

http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o37/drpengie/Sponsor%20Bunnies/Starskey.jpg

born march 2005 he was taken away from his mum when 4 weeks old due to another litter being born. He has a left sided head tilt.

http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o37/drpengie/Sponsor%20Bunnies/Saskia.jpg

a fawn netherland dwarf cross. Born 15th July 2005. She has teeth problems and skin lesions that keep re-occurring. She is very nervous and needs a lot of care and reassurance.

Madhulika

http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o37/drpengie/Sponsor%20Bunnies/Madhulika.jpg

a brown continental giant born 10th December 2005. She was a great gift to the sanctuary and is the sanctuary mascot.

Kinsey

http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o37/drpengie/Sponsor%20Bunnies/Kinsey.jpg

a white lionhead with blue eyes about 1 year old. Came into sanctuary with another bunny that was rehomed fairly quickly. He is very nervous so comes across as aggressive

Tasha

http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o37/drpengie/Sponsor%20Bunnies/Tasha.jpg

is a white domestic bunny born about 2002 as owners were emigrating but sadly she was unable to be rehomed as she started with problems with her back teeth and has to have treatment on her teeth frequently

Mickayla

http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o37/drpengie/Sponsor%20Bunnies/Mickayla.jpg

is a fawn lionhead bunny born 13th February 2007 at the sanctuary and was paired up with Madhulika for company as she was missing her beloved Bailey who passed over the rainbow bridge in November 2006. She is a cheeky little monkey but very much loved.

Just to let whoever has been assigned Caspian at Happy Hoppers know that if he does not make it through we will be taking on another permenant resident from our hard to homers and your present will be transferred to that bunny if you still want to send it.

This is not me replacing him, and its very hard for me to consider at the moment but I have always said I would not let a bunny die in vain by refusing a home to another needy one in their stead.

I sent mine yesterday, I made treat baskets, I put alfalfa cubes in them, brome hay, pine cones and a christmas cracker (toilet roll tube full of dried grass with a small willow ball, wrapped in brown paper). I popped a bag of pine cones in and some willow sticks too but the willow ball was too big to fit in :(

i filled a stocking with treats (treat ball and little carrot chew etc) and wrote a little letter from Lola. I think its such a good idea to do Secret Santa. Hopefully i'll have more money next year after graduating and i can spoil more bunnies:D

Sonya at the Bunny Camp Sanctuary says thanks for the presents for Brooklyn and Starsky whoever sent them.

They are the only 2 that have arrived. I'm taking mine on Sunday. Wonder if any others have been sent to Bunny Camp as there were quite a few rabbits listed as secret santa bunnies.
