Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

EC steroid injections

Young Bun
I have a bun with EC who is on a full course of panacur for her wobbly hind legs. Do regular massage and physio on her but now one of her legs is getting very unstable. I remember reading about someone on this site who had a bun who had steroid injections on their bun's back legs. Can anyone shed some light on this procedure i would love to know if anyone has gone through this and what the outcome was? Thanks...

Course Duration

She first had it about 6 months ago for about a month and a half, and now she has been on it for about 2 months following a brief break - our vet now tells us that she should stay on it permanently.

A long acting steroid might be given as an anti-inflammatory It is the inflammation within the CNS that EC spore cause which results in hind leg paresis
But steroids have a *negative* impact on a Bun's immune system and should be used with extreme caution. They can also affect Kidneu and Liver Function.

How was your Bun's EC diagnosed?
Has an alternative condition such as spinal disc disease been eliminated?

Has your Bun had any Non Steroidal Anti-inflammatory meds such as Metacam?

EC

She had metacam very early on but had no improvement, when she started on the Panacur about 6 months ago now she did improve over the following 2 months and 1 leg which was completely limp came back to life.

If we could just get her back legs going again - we can't even take her out on the grass anymore for exercise because of Myxi! We have a cart for her which we got from the USA but theres nothing like pushing against her own weight in the garden.

One leg is worse than the other in that it bends in, because she lay on it for so long, we do physio with her but it doesn't seem to make that big diference
