  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Prepulcid discountinued update

Hi
Thankyou to all of you who gave me information on alternatives to Prepulcid. I had to take Henrietta back to the vets yesterday for a check on how she was doing. He was pleased with her progress. He said Maxalon syrup would be useful in the future if she as another stasis episoide, although it doesn't work axactly the some as the Prepulcid, but because she had got good gut movement when he examine her he did not think she needed anything more at this time.
I also asked why the Vet on Thursday told be to get Gaviscon and wouldn't Zantac have been better. He did admit that Zantac would have been better and the Vet she saw Thursday probably did mean to say Zantac?.........
But the important thing is that Henrietta is much better, she is still a bit selective with her hay, and she will drink if it is put right in front of her, but her veg she eats likes she is starving, except carrots. But carrots encourage bad gut bacteria so maybe she nows at the moment they are no good to her. She looks much brighter and is playing. Her droppings are nearly normal size althoug still a bit mishaped.
