  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Floss has developed a swelling above one of her eyes and although she's eating and drinking etc normally she's a bit "flat". As she had Nodular Myxi this time last year I'm leaving nothing to chance and have an emergency appointment at 1.15. Please, please..vibes.:( :( Update later.

Vet says it's early days yet but because of Floss's previous history and the fact that the vet's seen so many cases of myxi this week(full blown and nodular in vaccinated rabbits) she's erring on the side of caution and giving her the same treatment as Kevin did last year..ie immediately jab of baytril and then 1ml flagyl twice daily , 0.8ml baytril once a day and Tiacil for her poorly eye 3xdaily. Total cost £120.00. There are no nodules yet, but I've taken her in 2 or 3 days sooner than the last time.

Poor Floss. :( I just assumed they had some sort of immunity when they'd actually had the disease. :?

Thinking of you.... I too am battling Myxi here with Caramel.. we have been back to vets again today... Anti inflam jab, metacam jab, eye drops, Baytril, Bio Lapis ... Another £50. This is a hateful disease

I am starting to hate THAT word  :censored:

Flossy is in the best possible hands. I am sure she'll be fine but huggggeee vibes coming this way from us xxx

Thanks so much for all the kind thoughts. I'm keeping firmly optimistic(though I must admit that every now and then my heart sinks:( ) because she got through it fine last year. I've just got to master syringing the meds..stay close to the phone Leanne!! Just one question though - I'm aware of the problems antibiotics can cause to rabbits' complex digestive systems and have a probiotic here, but wonder if the bog standard stuff is OK, or if there's a better one I should be using. The one I have is VETARK professional Pro-C Probiotic.

I use Pro-C but I do prefere Avipro, because Pro-C turns the water bottles green.

Avipro has extra vitamins in and Pro-C has chlorophyll for some unknown reason.

Hope Floss is better soon. X
