  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

 what is the youngest anyone has known a rabbit get pregnant or what is the standard line on this? Thanks.

Females? About 3.5 months. Smaller breeds tend to mature faster, although the girl in this case was a mid-sized mix.

I know of two cases where males impregnated their moms at 9 weeks before they were separated!

Is Barney snipped?

Not yet - Just had his vaccs and that is the next project - had VHD on Sat and vet nurse said to leave it a couple of weeks before getting the snip so he is going in then. If Nettles is a girl looks like it will be touch and go time wise with a bit of an overlap for her reaching sexual maturity while Barney can still get her pregnant. :bunny:

Ps We found Nettle on the same day that we got Barney from Exeter through the rabbits in need section on here so that is why Barney isn't neutered yet - thought with all the myxi and stuff going round was best to get the vaccs done first and then the neutering.

So they both came into your life on the same day... don't you think that is incredibly weird and like destiny... she is adorable and he is beautiful... Was she poorly, why on earth had she stayed in that nettle patch for 24 hours.???

The youngest mothers I've heard of were 4 months old, meaning they got pregnant at 3 months. I prefer seperating by sex at 10 weeks to be on the safe side as this is the earliest I've heard a rabbit can mature. (Heard from someone who claimed their rabbits had matured at 8 weeks though  but this is very uncommon...usually its 10-16 weeks)

Yes, it is isn't it. weird. Also how Nettle was just sitting on the lawn next to the cat the day before - is almost like that was destiny - but prob just scared and confused! :) I asked Dorset Wildlife Rescue and they said coz rabbits freeze/hide when they are scared and sometimes aren't very bright Nettle would have prob just sat there in the Nettles and starved! So it is very lucky we found her/him - she is defo not starving now! Has doubled her body weight and eats everything in sight!:D :D
