  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Worried about Hazel

I'm worried about Hazel today, my O/H thinks I'm crazy, but she's very quiet today. She doesn't really seem interested in anything, not even Buster. Normally they aren't more than 30cm apart.

I've looked her over, her eyes and nose are clear, front teeth look fine, no gurgly belly. I've seen her eat, but I thought she'd lost a bit of weight.

If you have a bonded pair how do you tell if they are both pooing?

Don't know if I'm worrying over nothing, I just have a feeling she's not quite right

Um... I watch them for a few minutes every time I clean out their litter trays  I'm not sure where yours live, but mine live inside so its easier for me to keep track of who is eating/pooing etc, although its not easy - hence staking out the litter trays  Other than that, I guess the amount of poo they are doing between the two of them.
The first time Bailey had stasis I was certain something wasn't right, but my partner couldn't see any difference in the way he was acting  Keep a close eye on her and listen to your instincts. A vet trip for no reason is better than the alternative. Have her teeth been checked recently? Bad teeth could be a reason for weight loss. Hope she perks up soon and theres nothing wrong

Sometimes my two will go like that for no apparent reason but after a few hours they are normally back to bouncing around. I think the best thing is just to keep an eye on your little 'un and if things haven't improved then pop Hazel into the vets for a check over.

There certainly seems to be the same 'hundreds' of poo's scattered about, I've just swept them all up so I can keep an eye on production:?

Hopefully it's nothing but if she doesn't perk up we'll pop to the vets, they are well used to me rushing someone in cause I'm a worried Mum:lol:

I may take her in even if she does perk up, as I definately think she's dropped a little weight. They both scoff like mad, but Buster has more covering over his ribs and spine. I might try weighing her on the bathroom scales as she was 2.5kg when she was in getting her vacs

One of my buns has been very quiet today, he has been eating if I give it to him but other than that he has been just sitting there and I was getting worried too, so I have kept a close eye on him.

I opened the back door 10 mins ago and to my delight they were both mooching around and trying to come into the house. They are both now munching away on the grass. I think they must have their quiet days sometimes like us, but I will still keep a close watch on them over the next couple of days.
