  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Calling Enteritis Experts...

Jenk

Young Bun
For those of you who've dealt with a bun (or bunnies) having enteritis, I'd like to know:

1) Did your bun's poop go back-and-forth between "normal" and either moist or malformed/mushy? (The vet told me that after antibiotic/probiotic treatment, it takes a while for the gut flora to balance and that irregular poops are common. My Zoe's poops were normalizing; now tonight, they've gone back to ranging from tiny to big and being rather squishy to the touch.)

2) Did keeping your bun on a diet of 100% hay (temporarily) seem to help clear up the enteritis? (I've had Zoe on hay for nearly a week now; she was doing better on it in terms of her poop.)

3) Do you know if having a mineral and salt lick is a bad idea for a rabbit trying to overcome enteritis? (I just wonder if Zoe should have only hay and water and literally nothing else in her diet for now.)

At least her temp. is normal (102.4-deg. F), her appetite is good, and she's still doing binkies when out of her cage. But I can't help but worry that her poops are reverting...though this may normal when overcoming enteritis.

Thank you,
