Gordon had a Dental last week and since then has developed a severe facial abscess which is now also becoming a Retrobular Abscess. He has been on Depocillin and Metacam for 3 days but the swelling face and bulging eye is getting worse

Christobel says to keep going with the Depocillin for another 24 hours. Gordon will then have an X-ray to see the extent of the infection but Christobel says we should expect the worst-Osteomyelitis. She says if massive bone infection is present then PTS is the kindest option.

Poor Gordon, he his such a gentle chap

I know, I put on seem really heavy rock music to come to work, so I didn't hear any soppy songs on the radio, but I still end up crying all the way in. She's really hanging in, but I think she's really suffering. I am totally with you, it's horrible, but it's so better then dying in pain. I guess I would want someone to do it to me, if needed.

Sorry to hear about Gordon, how is he now?

Gordon is in a really sorry state  He also has pus in his ear canal, on the same side as the facial abscess/bulging eye

He is being a very good boy about having all his injections and I think the stronger pain killers have helped.
After yet another chat with Christobel we are going to continue the aggressive treatment for another 5 days ( as long as we can keep Gordon's pain under control) If there is no improvement after 5 days Gordon will be helped to The Bridge
Me and Christobel agree that it would not be in Gordon's best interests to put him through extensive and VERY painful surgery.

Christobel examined Gordon and was shocked to see how fast the infection has spread
She is gong to anaethatise him and open up the absessed area. If, on doing so, it is apparent that there is advanced Osteomyelitis Gordon will be PTS whilst still under GA.
Christobel said that she thought she should attempt surgery but will *not* wake Gordon up if 'things look hopeless'

I feel so sick and have lost 10lbs in 10 days...........

I would never just 'give up' as all my Buns need me and when I take each Bun on I make a *lifelong* commitment to them.

but i think thats awful to put his wife with a dead bunny, wouldnt it of been best to let her forget him. didnt it stress her out?

it really upset me to read that as if one of my bunnies died i know the others would be distressed in seeing the other dead.

I know it may seem that way to us - but in fact it really help animals understand what has happened to their friends and move on. When Ruby died, Millie didn't eat until she had seen Ruby's body. I honestly believe that it really helps them to understand.

 oh jane..there are no words........

but the lady who saw us at the vets dropping off poor oscars body..saw us crying an said its always hapening to her..she gets to love the animal and they die..she then said her opinion is we are meant to have these animals to show them real love and compassion...even if they are ill etc...when the time comes its because these special guys are maing room for another anmal that desperately needs the same love they shared with you.

it didnt soften the blow for us either but it has made us think..a lot.

maybe its because youre going to have an influx of buns on your hands and the love and care you have showed all these special bns is needed for these new buns or they wont stand a chance elsewhere.
or maybe its just rotten luck and bloomin poor timing..
poor buns..poor jane:(
