  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

red urine

just noticed liquorice has had a wee on the cream carpet and its turned a pinky-red - is this normal?

I know slightly orange urine is normal at times - but red?

Has she been eating anything red/orange? Carrotts perhaps or beetroot? This can sometimes make them produce red wee.

Hi, mine sometimes do red wee if they have a bit of spinach or kale so I only give it them as a treat now and again.

red wee is fine. It does change colour depending on what they have eaten. If it has blood in it that is a different mater but it sounds like it is just food colouration. Isn't it great that they know to wee on white/cream carpets...mine can do that too

I read that their wee can be any colour (withing reason-so not blue XD) And that could be perfeclty normal if there are no other symptoms of anything else. My flossy (NZ White, not with us now :'() used to have orangey wee it was because she always had a carrot every morining (and a peice of lettuce and a big bunch of hay).
