Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Hi,

I have come along to see if I can get any recommendations for a vet in the Kent area?

Where abouts in Kent? There are a few members here from Kent who will be able to suggest someone.

hi, sorry, should have been a bit more specific... north west kent area, but i would be prepared to travel to get the best care for my bun.

i have a vet on my doorstep but i don't feel they are very rabbit friendly, hence the want to move

I live in Essex but I have travelled to Upminster which I suppose is two junctions over the Thames to see the vets there (Wylie vets). My rabbit was a referral there but they are mainly a first point of call vet they were way better than my first vets in Southend (ive now found a better vet locally) and have an exotics specialist. Try to find an exotics specialist as they have more rabbit knowledge. I think I rang Cambridge university who had a list and was able to tell me where the nearest exotics vet was

Hi :D I'm in Kent but I am pretty much the other end - near Canterbury!
I have an excellent vet near me but I guess that would be a bit far :?
Can you be a bit more specific about area? I used to live in Beckenham and had a vet who I was happy with there too if thats any good?

i need a new vet - update

Hi,

I now have a dilema regarding finding a new vet.

I have visited 2 practices and they both have pros and cons I think.

One is a large practice with lots of vets which I am not sure about, the other has just 2 vets which I would prefer, but they have a hospital where dentals and ops are carried out, which is alot further away.

Can I please have your views and opinions on what you would consider when looking for a new vet?

BTW, both vets that I saw at each practice were very knowledgeable and seemed very rabbit friendly. Just finding it hard to choose between them.

Well I used to use a companion care in Norwich and saw a different vet each time. Now I live in Westcliff and use a vet in Southend who is just excellent, 2 vets refused to operate on my bun and this vet did it and got him better. I wouldn't have my animals see anyone else - I find it so much easier to see the same person each time, they know your history etc.

Hello everybody BTW....I think this is my first post!!

I'm slightly confused as to where North West Kent is, I'm currently in Streatham but soon to move to Penge (which is very almost Kent) and our vet is fantastic, its John Hankinson in New Cross. I've been going to him since I moved to London 8 years ago, even though we've moved around London alot we've always stayed with him. He's got my buns through the usual (infections, stasis, vaccinations, teeth issues etc) but also the more unusual like Charlie's kidney stones, sludgy/calcium/oxalate issues, and when Charlie was very ill with EC a few months ago both John and his other vet Matt were fantastic. I don't think I could recommend anyone more highly, he even drove an hour to my flat once to put Fern to sleep cos I didn't want to drive her over there and stress her out for her last hour of life.
