  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

An u/d on Kitt - for those interested

I took Kitt back to the vets today so he could have his drainage tube in his side removed (they did this to stop fluid mounting up behind the muscle in his side)... the vet removed it and it bled a little but hasn't bled since. She said the main part of the scar is healing really well, but he does have a bit of dead skin on the wound - which may result in another bald patch for my poor little man (it doesn't matter to me, I love him all the same). She thinks he will pull through well with a bit of luck, and I've to take him back in on Tuesday :)

I've even mastered the art of feeding him his cecotropes without feeling sicky, lol... hes eating loads of poops now, pellets, hay and vege and drinking water on his own - he has sorted out using the funnel thing on his neck, bless him.

I'm proud of my little boy =]

Please keep sending get well vibes xx

I'm glad Kitt is doing well. Sounds like your loving care is really helping. My two buns Bella and Tarquin can't live together as they couldn't establish who was top bunny, but they live very happily side-by-side, rubbing noses and touching paws through the bars of their cages, and obviously get the company they need from each other. Maybe when things have settled and Kitt has recovered, that Kitt and Jamie will be able to live the same way. Rebec

Awww that's great :p You must be proud of yourself too - you're doing a great job and it ain't easy when they're poorly - I bet he's getting very fond of you now. Hope he's soon all better! :D
