  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Lice... again :(

When we first adopted Daisy she was covered in what I thought were mites so I took her to the vet. From my description, although the vet didn't actually look herself, she thought they were probably lice instead and started her on a course of Ivomec.

During a grooming session tonight I've discovered them again mainly around her tail but dotted around her whole body, although nowhere near as bad as they were before. I've just read about Ivomec and some people say that it doesn't do anything to shift lice. If that is true I'm a little annoyed with my vet to say the least.

What can I use to get rid of lice or is it another trip to the vet (which she hates anyway!)

If the vet didn't look then I wouldn't give that vet my money or trust them with my animals  Is there another vets that you can go to? Ask if they've attended small animal conferences as they need to have done so to be any good with rabbits/piggies - and is Daisy a rabbit or a piggie?

P@H sell something that gets rid of em. It got rid of the flea that kept annoying Nibbles

would that be xenex spot on? I've seen it recommended although it's really toxic for cats it seems OK for bunnies, just be aware they may have an allergic reaction as it goes into their bloodstream and kills the lice from within the rabbits body.
