Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Eye Abscess or growth help

Hiya Folks,

My little girl Buffy has had on going eye problems for around 18 months now:( but she is a brave girl and the problem has been managed with Tear Duct Flushes, Tiacil drops etc.

About 3 weeks ago she suddenly developed a small lump in the corner of her eye. I popped her to our Bunny Savy Vet who advised that surgery may be best to assertain the exact problem - ie Tumour or Abscess:cry:

The lump has increasly slightly in size now and she has been back this morning and the Vet feels we should now definately consider surgery, although my worries are that the prognosis isnt good which ever way it goes and I'm not sure I'm right in putting her through surgery, - I'm wondering if perhaps I should just let nature take its course and try and contain the growth/abscess with medication and then make the decision when the time comes.

Do any of you folks have any thoughts or had similar experiences - how did your bunnies cope with the trauma following surgery and did you feel you made the right decision in having surgery?

Thanks Folks, any throughts good or bad would be much appreciated.;)

I'd go for surgery if your bun is well apart from the eye problems. Alice who sadly is now at the bridge had her eye removed after an abscess grew behind it. It was quite traumatic at the time (probably more for me than her) but she got over it and it was almost as if her other senses became more acute.
