  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Tango has today started to shake his head and scratch is ear frequently. Is this ear mites? Is it a take straight to the vet problem or is there anything I can do at home?
Thanks

Personally I would take him to the vet for a check up. If he has an inner ear infection or ear mites he could suffer with head tilt. Catching it early will give him a fighting chance

That's what I wondered but I read somewhere about ear mites. We can't see anything in his ear. Needless to say we are have a trip to the vets this afternoon.

Hi  just to let you know we're back. She looked in his ears and thought they looked a bit waxy so gave me stuff to clean his ears with. She also gave me some medication just in case it is ear mites.
Incidentally I noticed this morning that he seemed to be sneezing more so he's back on baytril.
This vet was new but I was really impressed with her as she really helped me and gave loads of advice to me.
