  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Spaying questions!

Yup another paniky bunny mum:rolleyes:

Should I seperate my bonded pair when I have my girly speyed. I know the general answer is yes especially with a male but these 2 are really gental with each other. There has never been any mounting or biting not even playfully. They love to snuggle up next to each other and occasionally groom but are not physical with each other at all.
I worry that seperating them for to long will hinder her recovery, they are in the house with me so I can keep a really close eye on them and provide her with cardboard boxes to hide away in should she want to be alone.

My second plan would be to put Luna in the dog creat and put that into the enclosure so that they are together but seperated if you see what I mean?

Ugghh I now know why the pets I adopt are usually speyed, I have only done the spey thing twice before and felt terrable both times.:(

My Vet always likes bonded Bunnies to be kept together. Both Bunnies are admitted for the day and once the Doe is awake enough after the op' she is put straight back with her friend.
My Vet believes this actually aids recovery as the Bun is not so stressed as she would be all on her own.

I thought the general answer was keep them together? So long as he's not chasing her around it will be best for her - he should also go to the vets with her as she will smell different :)

I agree that they should go to the vets together. That was the mistake I made with mine. Tish was spayed and when we brought her home Tosh started attacking her, partly I think because she smelled of the dreaded Vets:) . My vet stitches internally and then glues the outer skin to stop either of the buns from 'messing'.

They were okay again within a couple of days, but I wish they'd both gone to the vets
