  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Hi, just thought I would let you know I took my frenchie back today for his check up and the vet thinks he is doing ok so far. The spots around his eyes are drying up and there seems to be no more in his ears in the last few days. He is still eating and although quieter in himself, not ill. Just keeping my fingers crossed he gets no secondary infections. He has another weeks supply of anti biotics and eye drops so pleased about that. She listened to his chest and said it was fine. Really looking forward to seeing him back to his usual cheeky self. How long should I expect it to be. Pam

I am so thrilled for you. Has he got nodular Myxi then? Got everything crossed for a swift and speedy recovery xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Thank you so much. Yes I think he must have that kind of myxi. He has not had any nasal discharge or trouble eating etc. He is usually always trying to see what the other rabbits are doing but at the moment he is not bothered. So obviously he must feel poorly still. He also has to lie down while he is eating too as if he is too weak to stand for too long. Hopefully he will get stronger soon. Pam

Stanford, so not very far from you. The vet said it is really bad here, much worse than Basildon where they are based. Pam

Yes when I went this morning I was talking to the receptionist and she said they have had so many cases of myxi lately. So sorry your two caught it. It is such a nightmare isn't it when you realise that's what they have. I have kept rabbits for years and this is the first time I have had one with it. Pam

That is fabulous news. Most vaccinated buns do recovery from nodular myxi when given appropriate treatment. Floss never lost her appetite when she had it, but she did seem a bit depressed for about a week, and of course, she looked a bit moth eaten because of all the lumps and bumps!! They all cleared up though and she's only got slight scarring as the base of one ear, and on eye which has slightly impaired her vision there, but she seems totally unaffected by it all!!
